A fracture or kidney stone can get your attention. Sometimes that works when labs don't.

How do I know this?

So, no calcium, nor iron, and if Evista was already rx, you are already in trouble.

The BA's are a fine product for someone who starts out with good levels, make no mistake.

But the ADEK are way not enough for someone trying to pull out of deficiency. They simply cannot build a multi that way. Not everyone is the same degree of deficit, you know?

They also offer A, D, and I think K. I'd have to check for E, but prolly. I don't actually, um, well, I can't put theirs.... Well. Let me say this another way. Any D3 5000 is the same as another D3 5000, as long as they are dry. Brand name doesn't matter as long as what's inside is the same. Price might make a difference.

You simply cannot beat their combo of calciums. Between the crystals you can put into any liquid and the original wafers (I like cinnamons broken up with apple slices) and now the chewies, they've got a good spread of non-huge pills to get the calcium into us in the most pleasant forms. The price looks staggering AT FIRST, but per dose, it's very reasonable. They put them in REALLY BIG packages, because we will use them FOR LIFE, so no point in buying lots of "bottles" or "boxes" when what you want is CONTENTS.

Fish oil probably doesn't make any difference. If it was important, you'd be using Coromega, the non-oil form of fish oils (Omegas). Malabsorbing most fats/oils, good and bad alike.

I lost 150 lbs. Now, we started with a mini list back i***** It covered nearly everything except B12 in those days. The doses weren't high enough, but the types were right, and the doses were higher then than most programs suggest NOW. The way I look at it is that I've lost 150 lbs and I could take 150 pills if I had to. Good trade. I DON'T take that many, of course, but I would if I had to.

I take pills with food, food with pills. If I am out of pills, no more food. If I still have pills, I need to eat something, even if it's just cheese or a few bites of fruit. It was a matter of developing my system. Most people just look puzzled, because they have their own system.

But yeah, you need to get a system. While my fracture in 2007 was caused by a really hard fall (fly thru air, meet road), the pain exceeded my labors (both over 24 hrs) and delivery because it lasted 3 months! And my arm will NEVER be right. Yes, I have osteoporosis and this type of break would have happened to an 18 y/o athlete. The difference is that I will NEVER heal properly.

And so, you say, you told me this why? Because once the bones are bad enough, a roll over in BED can fracture. You can fracture while standing at the mailbox chatting with the neighbor. The Femur neck is like a dowel pin that holds your leg assembly to your body assembly. Thin, fragile AND the first thing to go when the calcium, vit D thing gets out of control.

People are not born to understand malabsorption. Most don't. Very little is known about vit D. It was discovered in the 30's and only measurable since the 70's, and so it is a very new discipline. The textbooks were written in the 70's. Most docs really do not know what to do about vit D, even Endos!

I can, of course, bury you all alive with vit D articles, but if you want just my 3 faves, I can post those.

I'm so not a pill-taker....

I like chewables and injectables...

I keep my vitamins at my desk at work.  I think I'd be interested in the calcium crystals if they would work in my morning coffee.  I eat cottage cheese and carbmaster yogurt for breakfast so that's 26 g of protein... I used to do coromega... but stopped... dr didn't think I needed iron..but I think I do... I've got the BA iron... chewable...AND the BA calcium chalky-ass chewables...
Guess I should just take all the chewables to work and eat them when I get hungry...at least I'll know I'm doing them 5 days a week...think I'll do that.

I just need a very simple list...of what to take and when.

Cut to the chase... I could care less about what they do... just what do I need to take in what doses and when...

You're talking to the gal that can't make a commitment to get to the mailbox but twice a month.

I'm getting out my previous 3 yr labs and comparing them. When I have this years run I will check them with my pcp. She is a sharp lady and open to working with me. It is overwhelming but I believe proactive is better than trying to figure out how to "fix" something when it "breaks." Both figuratively and literally. Thanks again, Michelle, for helping to educate us.
