Thank you so much Evelyn,
It is certainly my hope that I get a VSG.  My doctor was not sure my insurance would approve it, and that it might be considered experimental.  I am close to the point when we test that for sure.  I've read so many good things in regard to VSG and would feel good about living with it.  It's still surgery, but no malabsorbtion issues or medication issues.  But if God decides I'm having an RnY, well, then so be it.  Again, many thanks, hugs, Mary
PS:  Congratulations on your wonderful loss and BMI, you far exceeded your goals.

Thanks.  My insurance covered my sleeve, so I hope yours will too.  If not, lots of nice people (including lots of folks right here on OFF) have had great success with the RNY.  You will do great with either surgery!

If you're getting a lapband, you might also want to go to that specific surgical forum.
Good luck.

Hi Katherine,
I am not planning on the lapband.  Originally that was my first choice, but I have a great deal to lose, and my surgeon said I would get abut a 60% loss with the band and closer to 80% with the RnY.  I have since read about the VSG and think that sounds perfect.  I like the idea my insides are not being rearranged, but insurance my not cover it, so it will be RnY and I'll be okay with that too.
Again, thank you so much for your reply,
Hugs,
Mary

Keep posting cutepuppy!
This board is probably the wisest, best and "gentlest" boards around.
Good luck on your upcoming surgery and prove your doc wrong, get to your goal. You will feel so much better after the surgery (or around 8 weeks after).

I'm a revision to RNY, 2 years out and way past my goal. I too was told I wouldn't get past 190, guess what? I'm a size 6...I don't weigh myself, just go by my clothes cuz I exercise everyday.
Yes...I exercise everyday. I chose exercise as my transfer addiction.
I'm 53 years young and no longer have to take naps!

Oh boy Debbiejean,
I am so encouraged by your post.  Two years out and a size 6.  Congratulations that is awesome.  I exercise a lot too.  In fact, I'm becoming an exercise junkie.  I really like it.  (I can't believe I'm saying that?!)
Thank you for your post, it means so much that you took the time to do that.

I used to say getting old was h*ll and my Daddy would say "But the alternative is so much worse".

He was right, I'd rather get old, than die early.  And with my WLS, I WILL get old.  In about 40 years!

Welcome to the OFF.  We are happy to have you and you will find lots of support here.  We are a diverse group.  From all over the world, with different types of WLS,  different genders, and different ethnic groups.  One thing we all have in common.  WE CARE!!

Goof luck in completing your journey to WLS and a happy old age.  In about 40 years!

Grammy, you are delightful!!!  Thank you so much for the warmth of your welcome.  Caring is wonderful!  I love diversity, so that will keep it interesting.  If we were all cut with the same cookie cutter we could only achieve to a certain level and stop.  But those with different ideas bring so much to the table and we go much further.  The commonality of our WLS makes us all human.  And that is what it is all about.  Thank you again, I do so appreciate that you posted.  Hugs from me, Mary

Hi Mary,
You'll do fine!  Just take a deep breath & follow all the instructions (in other words jump thru all the hoops presented by your drs office, psych & your insurance company).  Then, just wait & your day will be here before you know it.    This surgery has been such a blessing for so many of us!!!   Keep in touch & post all your questions here, there is much understanding & support here.

Thank you Jan,
Your post means a great deal to me.  I'm probably an overachiever in regard to following instructions.  The hoops are pretty consistent, but again, I'm going along pretty well accomplishing the various hoops.  One huge wonderful thing is the support I have from my husband.  I have so much, and here I am asking more?  I hope the day will come and hope it won't, lol.  I want to feel wonderful and do things with my husband and grandchildren.  That's what I hang in front of my face when my knees start knocking.   I'll remember what you said.  Hugs, Mary
