WLS for seniors question?

A friend of mine's mother is 73. When my friend mentions her considering WLS the mom's reply is "I'm too old" . What is the experience of folks on this board regarding age problems and WLS (either RNY or banding)?  I know that some individual surgeons and insurance companies have age restrictions, but aside from that, are there problems? Any folks out that that had a WLS in their 70's that would care to share experiences or thoughts?

At my surgeons seminar we first attended someone asked if there was an age limit. We were told that as long as a person was in good health for their age, had no reason for the Dr. to think they wouldn't live a normal life for years to come, then they would consider the surgery. Everyone is different and he is willing to take each on a case by case basis.

Diana....if she is in good health I don't see why she couldn't have WLS. Finding a surgeon that will do it my be a little harder. I wouldn't give up...I would keep trying if I were her.

My DH was banded last month.  He is 68.  I was banded at 59.

I would think her PCP could refer her to a surgeon to talk to about it.

I would certainly agree lap band rather than RNY or DS would be the way to go for an "older" patient.
