Portion size??? HELP!!!
Hi Reenee,
I'm actually doing a demonstration this week at my support group meeting about portion distortion. You are just a few weeks out from surgery and your pouch should be about the size of a med-lg egg. It (by standards) only hold about 2oz in VOLUME, not weight!!!
This is what I'm showing at support group
Plastic Easter eggs come in two sizes, small and large. The small one is about the size your pouch is now. If you open it up, the bottom, round end is just about 1oz. A larger Easter egg is about the size your pouch will be at around 6 months, and the bottom, round end holds 2 oz. Yes, I've measured them...lol
At this stage of your journey, please consider how much volume your pouch holds when it comes to weighing your food. Especially now, I doubt seriously you could eat 3 oz of meat. After you cook your meat, cut it up into small pieces and then measure it with a tablespoon. You should only be able to eat about 2tbs of it.
Hope this is helpful
P.S..... here's my doctor's progression of volume of food:
week 1-4: 1-2 tbs (1/8 cup)
week 4-6: 2-4 tbs (1/4 cup)
week 6-8: 4-6 tbs (1/2 cup)
1/2 cup of food should be all you eat at a meal for 6-9 months, maybe more. Maximum amount of volume should stabilize at about 8-12oz of food at 12-18 months.

Thanks all for the great info and quick responses. I'm actually 3 yrs. since RNY and have been bad....VERY BAD!!! I'm lucky that I have plateaued and not regained any weight but know, after reading other's stories, that I must change my ways immediately. I will use the deck of card measurement since I have BIG hands and my goal is to cut down!!!
I am back on the treadmill, measuring & tracking my food and drinking the water I should drink. Thank you to everyone for your help and support. I truly appreciate it!!!
