Oprah Report

I was able to watch Oprah at work today.  My boss left early, so I did not have to sit and listen to him for 30 minutes.

The show started off with 5 minutes of Valerie Bertinelli.  I am so in love with her.  She spoke about her Jenny Craig diet, but mostly about her bikini shoot for People magazine.  For 47 years old, she looks awesome.

Then came Marie Osmond.  10 minutes of her tale.  How her mother always dieted.  How she was told to get down to 93 pounds or they would cancel the TV show.  Etc.

Then, 45 minutes of Star Jones.  Not what I expected.  I expected Oprah to have her on for 10 minutes and bash her.  No to both.  She listened intently.  Star explained how WLS is not the easy way out.  She also explained about her days on The View, just after having the surgery.  Star did basically call Barbara Walters a liar, without saying it.  I liked that.

All in all, a good show.  The only problem I have is that Oprah was probably just putting on a face for Star.  I don't think Oprah's mind was changed at all.  And that is a shame.

I watched it too.  Star Jones is still not being honest.  I distinctly remember her talking on The View about her weight loss and saying that she was working with a doctor on a diet and hired a trainer.  I didn't believe her, which is why I remember it so well.

I have written to Oprah before about weight loss surgery.  She has Dr. Oz on all of the time.  I asked them to have him do a show with honest information on the different weight loss surgeries.  I don't see that happening.

Personally I didn't think that she was being honest either. I found several things that just didn't sit right with me.

How could she not know that saying the stuff that she did when she had the surgery was not causing problems with her co-workers? They kept asking her to please open up and tell her story. I think she is just to vane to admit that she needed help and couldn't do it herself.

I also heard that she said she was 2 months out of surgery and had lost about 25 pounds. I found that difficult to believe since we all know that the more you weigh the faster you lose, even with the surgery. She was over 300 pounds so I find it unbelievable that she had lost only 25 pounds. I weighed less than she did when I had my surgery and the first month I lost 27 pounds.

I do appreciate her stating that the surgery is not an easy way out. I still think that a lot of people think that and I for one did not have a 6" incision on my stomach as the "easy" way out. That is for dang sure!

As for Oprah, I still think that she finds the surgery wrong but that is her personal opinion. I think that Oprah was open to having her on because they are friends. I very rarely watch her anymore since she thinks she is the only person who knows anything. I can't stand it when she interrupts experts saying what she thinks is right. She is just rude if you ask me. I think her head is so big that I am constantly amazed that she fits it through a doorway.

Just my own opinion............

My thoughts also on Opra , i use to love watching her but she has really changed in the last couple of years , or maybe it is me that has changed? She has gone off the deep end with a lot of her thoughts and has so many people following her , i guess that gives her the big head ..
and her one sided ideas are causeing a lot of people to err i believe.... just my opinon. but you know what they say we all have one lol....

Thanks for the report on Oprah.  I missed most of it, but from what I did it seemed that Star's main goal for WLS was to increase her self esteem for a better love life.  Did she ever mention anything about health?  Or any other reason for her WLS?

Just curious.
All you need is the plan, the road map, and the courage to press
on to your destination.

Yeah, I watched the show as well. Also thought that Star left out quite abit about what
she has gone through since surgery. She also did not mention weather or not she has
faced any problems with her health now. Yes, her self esteem seems much better, but.
I think she also is still embarressed that she had to have the surgery to lose weight.
Opera has had her weight problems for most of her life as well & still thinks wls is a bad
idea, She did not actually say that, but, I still think she thinks it. Yes her head has gotten
way too big these days & she does say rude stuff to folks & gets away with it as it is her program & do what she wants kind of thing.
I also think the Nutrasystem is a good thing for perople that only have 40 or 50 lbs to lose any more than that it is hard to make it work. I tried that and all the other diets out
there as well.

Thanks for the recap George.

I did no****ch the show as I too am burned out on Oprah and her rudeness. I haven'****ched her show in almost two years. Can't say I miss it much.

Just my opinion here...Oprah has had so much bad to say about WLS she can't back down now. She has too many followers and she couldn't ever be wrong!!!

Hugs....connie d

She talked to the one with gastric bypass, the most. She has berated the WLS all along.
I predict she will have WLS within the year.

Aloha George and thanks for posting about Oprah,

It is interesting to read what others think of Oprah these days. I really wanted to see/hear her yesterday about Star's surgery, and I felt that she really held back her true feelings about WLS just because Star is her friend. I don't think Dr. OZ will ever address gastric bypass surgery in a positive way....Oprah would not allow it. It is ironic to me that with all her negativity about WLS, she continues to go up and down like we all did, and yet doesn't open her mind to consider anything but what she has always done.

Aloha nui loa,

I was able to watch Oprah for about the last 20 minutes. Personally I felt sorry for Star Jones, she has lost herself. Hopefully with more therapy Star will somehow become more comfortable in her new body. Star just looks like a lost puppy. She is more soft spoken and is trying to find "who she really is". I totally understand her not wanting to be a bariatric poster child, but she is in the public and to flat out lie when asked about surgery to the public (now her family and close friends knew) was how should I put this???....the public is not stupid. Is it her place to educate the public about WLS? Nope. Is it her right to not tell? Yep. She was caught in the middle because she is a public figure. For public "figures" it is in the best interest to yourself is to tell the truth because the paparazzi will find out one way or another. You never really have a "private life" and Star knows this.

I worked with a gal down the hall who had bariatric surgery. Everyone knew she had the surgery but she'd just tell people she lost weight with diet and exercise. People are not stupid. Having WLS is nothing to be ashamed about. And...all of us know that WLS is not the easy way out.
In the long run..."who's fooling who??"
