Laura, I do know if the coffee is not decaf it will increase your appetite. My wls doctor doesn't want us to have caffeine because it is an appetite stimulant. Just my two cents worth..........

It's not what you gather, but what you scatter
that tells what kind of life you have lived.

Hi Brenda.... I know I'm not supposed to be drinking coffee with caffeine... and maybe it is increasing the old appetite.  I refused to give that up right from the beginning... even during the liquid diet before surgery I drank coffee with caffeine.  I don't get the nasty withdrawal headaches some people get.  But I also figure it's my only vice anymore!!! HAHA.... I don't eat all the stuff I used to love and I rarely drink, don't smoke... I figure I gotta have something.  I'm going to try to cut down though.  That can only be a good thing.

Maybe you could just mix it half and half?.........Just a thought. I am not a big coffee drinker so I am sorry I don't know what you are going through. Although I do sometimes have that with my diet Pepsi. I can do the caffeine free that doesn't bother me but doctor doesn't want us doing much pop. I don't do as much as I would like to that is for sure!

I hit a plateau at 99 pounds lost a few weeks ago.  It drove me crazy.  That past and now I am back to losing again.  Good luck to you! I know it will pass for you too!

Marcia...

Did you do anything special to break the plateau or did it just pass on it's own?
I'm happy that you're losing again... wow... you're doing awesome.
I hope my weight loss gets going again soon... it's a real downer!

I am not sure if this will help but I read this somewhere and kept a copy for future reference .

Good Luck

Our bodies use glycogen for short term energy storage. Glycogen is not very soluble, but it is stored in our muscles for quick energy -- one pound of glycogen requires 4 lbs of water to keep it soluble, and the average glycogen storage capacity is about 2 lbs. So, when you are not getting in enough food, your body turns first to stored glycogen, which is easy to break down for energy. And when you use up 2 lbs of glycogen, you also lose 8 lbs of water that was used to store it -- voila -- the "easy" 10 lbs that most people lose in the first week of a diet.

As you stay in caloric deficit, however, your body starts to realize that this is not a short term problem. You start mobilizing fat from your adipose tissue and burning fat for energy. But your body also realizes that fat can't be used for short bursts of energy -- like, to outrun a sabertooth tiger. So, it starts converting some of the fat into glycogen, and rebuilding the glycogen stores. And as it puts back the 2 lbs of glycogen into the muscle, 8 lbs of water has to be stored with it to keep it soluble. So, even though you might still be LOSING energy content to your body, your weight will not go down or you might even GAIN for a while as you retain water to dissolve the glycogen that is being reformed and stored.
