What's new Tuesday?

Hi my OFF family:

It's nearly 3 a.m. and I can't sleep. I had today off ... what fun to go into the office, expend gas and time to sit in a conference room and be depressed for an hour. Well, I knew it was coming ... we aren't closing down the newspaper, they're not forcing us to take 10 unpaid leave days, as was told on a news blog I frequent. If you want to see the whole story, check out my other post.

The news was our paper is surviving, but still struggling. Muskegon, Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo are consolidating copy desk operations in the near future. The east side papers (Bay City, Saginaw and Flint) are consolidating operations and only printing twice a week ... so we are still a daily paper here. Ann Arbor isn't even going to be a newspaper anymore.

We are getting some cut in pay ... 5 to 15 percent. Ah well ... anyway, I am too wound up to sleep ... plus my knee hurts (we're getting some rain here and I can tell). Also, my body responds when I'm stressed out.

I have an appointment today with my psychologist ... I really need someone to cry to ... It's been a tough day and my future is so up in the air right now. I spent part of tonight putting my resume on CareerBuilder.com, but there's not much out there for journalists. I feel so lost! I have a world of experience, and no one is going to want me now. When I was overweight, I never felt unwanted ... I always had confidence ... now I don't know what I'm going to do. How strange is that?

Well, anyway, I know everyone is going through tough times, and mine are much less worse than others (Laureen lost her job, as have many others ... I still have mine at least.) I know many other newspaper brothers and sisters that are unemployed because papers have folded ... my paper is still alive, and if these moves can keep it going, well, let's do it.

There! Maybe that'll help me sleep, now that I've gotten all that out of my system.

Chat away ... I'm going to try to get some shut-eye.  I'll check back later.

Good morning Eileen and all you other OFFers!

Eileen, it is a great day here in Texas.

13 Days until Opening

Day!!!

This evening I went to see Eddie play ball.  His coach was upset because his parents did not bring him to practices last week.  He had family visiting from out of state.  So, instead of batting him first or second, where he always bats, he batted him 5th and the cleanup batter is the slowest runner on the team, so Eddie would have a hard time running the bases (which he loves to do).  Eddie had a single and a walk, plus a line out to second.  He scored two runs, one on a heads up play.  His team had bases loaded, with Eddie being the runner on second.   The #4 batter took too big a lead off third and the catcher threw down there.  He knew he would be out, so he headed towards the plate.  Got in the old run down.  The second throw to the plate was very high.  The pitcher caught it on the fly at the backstop and threw it back to the catcher.  Meanwhile, the runner had scored.  The catcher was trying to be heads up and took 3 steps in front of the plate watching the runner who was now on second.  As he did this, Eddie kept going around third and scored with the catcher standing about 6 feet away holding the ball.

I sold my spare opening day Rangers tickets on ebay last night.  I paid $6 for the two of them and sold them for $30.  This is the first time I did that.  Gotta look into doing it more often.

Well, have a great day.

GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!!

George:

It's now nearly 6 a.m. and I still haven't fallen asleep. I've given up. I got up and played with the cats. Nettie tore apart one of the feather toys and then tried to walk away with a piece of feather. I couldn't chase her. I think she thought she caught a bird.

The story about your grandson was great. It was a great pickle.

I'm excited about opening day, too. I watched the World Baseball Classic championship game last night ... it was very exciting. Some great games. Glad you could make some money on your spare tickets. Stub Hub is a good place to sell them too, I hear (that's where my friend got her tickets last year for the White Sox/Red Sox game we went to at Comiskey ... I still call it Comiskey!)

The problem with Stubhub is the sellers fees are ridiculously high.

Eileen ~ that really hurts! I know this is a bad time for so many. That doesn't help at all. Have a good cry with your psychologist then come right here for lots of hugs.

Today my 'baby' turns 39. That's impossible, it seems like yesterday that she was a warm bundle in my arms.

Something strange is happeneing to my skin. After 2 1/2 years it is shifting downward. It looks more saggy and crinkled than ever, and looks like it is melting. Even my forearms have sags. At this rate, before long it will be pooled around my ankles. I think I am deflating like an old balloon.

Happy Birthday  to your baby, an Aries like me (although mine's later).

My skin sags around my knees, the rest isn't really bad and mostly covered by clothing. No one sees it but me and cats, so I don't care. Oh, and the bat wings, of course. I could fly with those. And the girls ... well, they hang low and need extra support these days ... used to have a lot more to them.

Thanks for the kind words. I cried in bed to the cats ... they purred for me but then Scooter got tired of it and left. He doesn't like loud noises (he's scared of the refrigerator motor).

Hi,

I was awake after midnight and my body is an early riser so I haven't had much sleep yawwwwn.

Today is volunteering at the hospital, then I have an appointment with my Rehab Counselor to see what the results are from all the testings I took.  Interested to see what my true strengths are.

Then we shall see.

Clueless about weight loss and weight loss surgery of any kind.

Morning all....
Annette, re the sagging skin -- I can relate, course I am way older than you, but even the skin on my lower arms is hanging....yuck!  The girls look like a couple deflated balloons....LOL.

Eileen, I am praying for you ....

George, I wish I had your enthusiasm for baseball.

The wind has been blowing since early last evening....all nite I could hear it whistling...it's in the high 30's this morning with rain predicted for later this afternoon.

The naughty kids have returned to my back yard ....they are High Schoolers and they hide behind our pine trees and smoke before they go to school.....I've put up no trespassing signs and they stayed away for a while but the last two mornings they were back....guess I'll have to call the police again.   Sorry, this is private property and besides we don't want "butts"  all over the yard plus other trash they drop.

Need to get my tires rotated this morning, and am doing a load of laundry...

Have a good one,
Pat R.

I think I'd be tempted to put something really stinky back there for them to step in.  Perhaps something that will fertilize those pines and discourage them at the same time. . .  Do you have any horses or cows around that would lend you some fertilizer??? come to think of it my mom had some regular plant food in a bottle that smelled so strong she couldn't keep it in the garage. Perhaps something like that strategically placed for a week or two. .  .
