here's the bad news about the newspaper
Well, it could be worse: one newspaper is going out of business; three others are consolidating and coming out twice a week. We're still a daily but everyone takes a cut in pay.

Anywhere from 5 to 15 percent ... don't think it's 15 because that's the top of the payscale and I'm not there. But it's not 5 either.
Let's say I can't afford any cut, especially with having to pay for health insurance premiums too (we don't have that now, either, but will after June 1). I get half a paycheck after the bankruptcy court is through with it, and I'm barely making ends meet now. The only good thing that's happened is gas has gone down from $4 a gallon to under $2. If that goes up again, I'm really screwed.

Eileen,
The good news might be that you can contact the court and get your bankruptcy restructured again so you can manage. There might even be a way to discharge it early since you've been faithful in paying it. I'd sure try.
The other good new is that you still have a job.
We took a cut in pay at our office, too.

It's an idea ... the last time it cost me (I think it was $35 or $25 to rework my budget). And then I'm bankruptcy longer. I should've been out of it this year, now I'm in it another year.
I don't know where else I can cut. I'm cutting out the cleaning lady this time ... $40 every two weeks and I have to clean the house myself, and I'm not good at that because it's hard on my back and knees, but I just won't have it.
Can't really make a decision til I find out what the paycut is ... could be 5 percent; could be 15 percent (don't think it's that much ... the publisher said it would be that much for him, those at the top of the pay scale, which I'm definitely not).
And then having to pay for insurance takes more money out of the paycheck. And I'm only getting half a paycheck anyway.
I think I need another beer. (The other one is already through me.)

I'm so sorry Eileen. I know what you mean when you say you can't afford any cut in pay. It's hard making ends meet these days. What a bummer.
I think Janet has a fantastic idea about the bankruptcy. With the economy the way it is and the fact that your pay is being cut because of it, they might dismss the bankruptcy early. I think there's a good chance of it. I hope, hope, hope so.
They are talking about more workforce reductions at my company also. They let 500 people go in January in the sales and marketing area on the east coast and we got an email from the president that said there will be more cuts by April 30th but they don't know where yet. The managers in my area keep saying we are pretty safe but I don't buy it. Although I can't afford to lose my job I am old enough to get early retirement from social security but I don't have a penny saved for retirement and we all know we can't live on that. I would have to get a part time job and then I probably wouldn't have any health insurance until I qualify for medicare. Oh my, who would have thought we would be worrying about this kind of stuff at this stage of the game. It's depressing. Have another beer for me.
