Important info: RE: constipation

I just posted on the What's New but wanted to catch all of my OFF family with this. My friend I was going to Italy with had a bad bout of constipation about 3 months ago. This resulted in some tearing and really messing up her insides. She is NOT a WLS patient. Anyway after 3 months of meds, soaking, stool softeners etc she is going to have to have surgery. Do NOT let constipation go untreated. Do whatever it takes to keep you moving smoothly. Prunes and prune juice work for me. Luckily I rarely have a problem, but I will make sure I don't from now on. She is on strong pain pills, hurting all the time, missing work, absolutely miserable. We decided that a two week tour when you feel great can be exhausting. When you already hurt???? It was a no brainer.

Aloha Karen....I am so sorry to hear about your friend's pain. And....the missed trip to Italy!! I can't imagine traveling in pain, so totally understand the reason for postponing.

Constipation is scary to me. I've had a few bouts with it that ended with me feeling like I was having a baby.........MONDO PAIN!! Now I try to keep up with fiber, daily stool softeners, and always keep on hand Smooth Move tea, and prunes/prune juice.

Good topic for we WLS peeps........I have a feeling most, (or all) of us worry about this from time to time.

Karen, sorry about your friend and your trip. Since wls, I watch those movements as much as watch my water intake.  I still rely heavily on those little birdseeds that I used to put in my cream of wheat and now I just put them in what ever I'm eating at the time.  Prunes are really good too.  I like mine boiled.  Hopefully she will recover for a fall trip and you guys will be all the better for the wait.
