I'm 62 & going to have Lap-Band WLS.
Hi Everybody, I'm 62 years old and plan on having Lap-Band WLS this spring. I'm about four months into the (hopefully) six month process to get insurance approval. My question is; are there any other Lap-Band, or for that matter any WLS patients that are around my age?
And did you have any problem getting appproval because of your age? I just do not know what to expect and would like to hear from others in the same situation.

Hi Katherine! I started having horrible and constant reflux last Easter Sunday. An endoscopy showed that I had the reflux and severe gastritis. Medication did not help. My band was undfilled completely and the reflux didn't stop. Then I couldn't eat any solid food. In August it became so bad that I couldn't even keep down liquids. All of this went on while I was appealing my insurance company who said that I didn't need my band out. On August 20th I needed emergency surgery to remove my band - which had slipped. I won my appeal to New York State and I had RNY on 9/22. That about sums it up...
Hiya Jerry.....I didn't have a band, I had RNY. However, we have several on here that have had bands. I'm sure they will be here to help answer your questions. Good luck in your journey, I'm sure you will do great. I'm 56 and didn't have any problems. Another thing, I lived in KY (Lexington area) almost my entire life, so glad to see another fellow Kentuckian here. Hope you stick around and post often.

OK, I've got to ask. But first, My wife and I spent a few wonderful days around the Littleton, Co area a couple of years ago. A very lively and interesting place. Kind of hard to get to, especially in the winter time, but absolutely beautiful.
The first time we were there we road the Durango to Littleton Narrow Gage Railroad Steam train. We liked it so much we drive back two more times before we had to move on to Utah.
We flew into Denver, rented a car and drove around Colorado, Utah, and Arizona for three weeks. It was a celebration trip to celebrate my wife's "complete remission" designation from Multiple Myeloma cancer. It was a great trip.
Now back to my question. How in the world did a Hillbilly from Kentucky end up in the Rockies, in Littleton, Colorado?

LOL, oh boy........Are you one of those "good 'ole boys"? Yep, I do believe you are a great guy! You see, I met this man from CO, and well......and now you know "the rest of the story". I moved out here in 2000. I was homesick for KY for a few YEARS but have now decided that this is my home and I need to get my mind wrapped around that. I married my 'good ole boy and I try to make it back to KY at least twice a year.
I hope you stay around us over 50'ers. We can all use a dose of laughter now and then.
Good thoughts go out to your wife on her remission, yeeeeee hawwwwww, great news!
Blessings to all in KY.....

Hi Jerry, I am from Elizabethtown KY and I had my lab band at 58. Nov 19, 2008. I have lost 45 pounds and I am doing fine. I chose the Lap band because of minimal risks and I wanted to lose weight slowly. I had my third fill so far and doing great. I still have a little trouble remembering to take small bites and chew my food. I exercise 4-5 times a week. It was slow going but now its getting better. It take time when youre older to begin a work out program. I had no problem getting approved for the insurance. I had high blood pressure but that has resolved now. I know you will do fine with your lap band.
