I agree with the above posters - - carbs are like a demon for me.  I can't indulge in simple sugars.  They make me crave more, and more.  When the carb demon rears its ugly head, I go on an Atkins like eating plan for 5-7 days and get that craving out of my system!  It's hard, but you know you need to do it.  Stop the carbs.  Eat lean protein, then green veggies if you still have room.  You won't have room for anything else and the cravings WILL go away.

Jeane that is the biggest reason that i had the RNY rather than the lapband...i knew from the get go that i was addicted to sugar and carbs and knew that the lapband woudnt give me the control i needed....You can overcome it but it is much like AA you have to make up your mind that you arent going to touch them and yes it is hard but you have to count on your will power to get you thru...
being addicted to anythihng that isnt good for you is hard ....i see you are a Christian? or by your user name i assume you are. Jesus can help you with this as much as you are willing to turn it over to him.....it is very much like being and alcoholic, there is no such thing as only eathing one carb or one sweet....  go back to basics and cleanse your system good and it may be easier after that as it will give you a time to cleanse your thoughts too.  hope some of this, be it a small amount or a large amount , helped some..... use fruit and drink lots of water.

Yes, I agree it is very much like being an alcoholic (my Dad was one)

So FOR TODAY I will not eat things that I know will set me off.

Thanks,

Jeane

Ah, yes.  Carb addiction.  It reminds me of the country song that goes "the more I drink, the more I drink".

I am 17 months post-op and I can FINALLY eat a small portion of carbs, and push the rest away.  I limit myself to one serving a day of the 'bad' stuff.  I won't say I have it every day.  But when I do break down, I know one is all I get for that day!  And no justifying, by saying I didn't have any yesterday, I won't have any tomorrow, so I can have 3 today.  That's how I got to be overweight to begin with!

My Mom used to say everyone should have an ounce of good dark chocolate a day for their health.  My Dad would wink and say she was now up to the year 2025!

Good luck.  You CAN do this!

I am going to do it as well as I can, one meal and snack at a time.  I think I need to be very careful for awhile (if not for ever!)
