Hi guys........I am so frustrated and confused and frustrated some more!!  I received a denial from my insurance co. because they wanted me on a "dr approved diet"......so my Dr and I agreed on WW.  I have lost four pounds, put on four pounds, lost 3 pounds, gained 2, lost .3, gained 2!  I just cannot wrap my mind around this.  I just feel like I am in limbo.......waiting for surgery.  And in the meantime my clothing is getting tighter, I am getting more depressed and I just cannot talk myself into "getting it"..........does anyone understand what I am trying to say??

I have been in such denial about my weight until the last two or three months.......looked at my self in the mirror today and the first thing that came to my mind was humpty dumpty!!!  OMG.......when did this happen??  I always had a waist, my pants were always too big around the waist....I had a VeRy hour glass figure......... so what did I do about it?..........made brownies w/frosting and aTe!!!

What should I do guys???  Help!  I just cannot get control of my self.........kind of like a bratty kid has taken over, and I cannot get her to pay attention to me!!  Lately I find myself saying.......just in case something happens to me, this is where you can find...........or this is how I do this.  What am I doing???  Help!

Thanks..............Vickie

Hi Vickie:
First of all, let me say you aren't alone with the demons you are fighting.....we've all been there.  The fact that we've had WLS doesn't take away those demons, we just have to fight all the harder.

Is there someone who you can talk to -- can your Dr.
refer you to someone for some counseling.....believe me, it does help.   I don't know if you have spiritual faith, but that's the only way I get thru the day.....even if you only believe in a "higher power" if you will call on that when you are tempted, it can certainly help.  Another thing when you are tempted, you need to find something to get you away from food.....take a walk, call a friend,
work on a craft or hobby ....  anything but turning to food.   It's not an easy road, and it will always be that way for us people who have always used food as a way to feel better (when we really don't afterwards).

I'm not pretending to know it all, I certainly don't, but I can share my feelings with you and hope what I've offered will be of some help.
I'll say a prayer for you, Vickie.

Don't give up and  do find some help with some good counseling.   I'll be keeping you in my thoughts.  Feel free to e-mail me at [email protected] or call
evenings 269 651-6803.

Vickie:

Don't give up, kiddo!

I understand about the bratty "inner child".

Just do the best you can, but go to the WW meetings so that your insurance will be happy.  It really is a good diet.

Keep posting!

Pat said it all! We've all been through this, and that's why we wound up having WLS. If I told you all the times I went through WW, ... well, I know you'd believe it. I could own stock in the company.

Counseling has definitely helped me pre-op and post-op, so much so that I have continued it even five years after surgery. I'm still growing, still learning. Does your insurance cover therapy? If it does, take advantage of it. It's well worth it.

If not, take advantage of us on the board. I use "call a friend" all the time ... because when I'm sitting around by myself on the weekend, lonely, bored, that's when I want to eat. So call us ... or e-mail me and I'll give you my number. It's no shame to need help. We all do ... I still do. I will for the rest of my life.

Please contact me.

Hi Vickie
I agree with the girls.  We all had to be put through the same exact things. I never would have gotten WLS if I could have lost weight and kept it off on WW or the thousand other diets that I tried.  I Had Lapband first in 2006 and then needed a revision to RNY.  I had to go through the same weigh-in nonsense all over again.  Try to relax and remember that all of this is worth it.

Hi,

It makes me very grumpy hearing about insurance companies who just don't get it!!!!  The people making the decisions probably are skinny minnys and have to idea what it's like.  Anyway, don't be so hard on yourself.  Your mind and body are yelling at each other and aren't listening to you.  I would suggest you really think about your goals.  What is it you really want.  You want this surgery?  Then, get angry!  NOT at yourself, of course, but at the demons yelling and say, look, this is going to happen whether you like it or not!  I am doing this silly thing for the silly insurance company so I can have a new life, a healthy life.  So, zip up your yelling, ye body of mine!  Well, anyway lol.  I know you can do this!!!

Clueless about weight loss and weight loss surgery of any kind.

vickie-first off-welcome back- you have been MIA!!!

i have to agree with everyone's comments-but i want to add- the ins company wants to see if you can be compliant-i don't think they CARE if you actually LOSE on the diet--they want to see that you will follow dr's directions ...so--do the diet- go to meetings...keep your doc in the loop- and appeal the denial--

the folks at the ins company are paid to deny so they don't have to pay out!!!!!! they want you to go away- they say you don't need surgery so you will think you don't!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  btdt believe me!!!!!!!!!!!

as paula sad -get angry- at THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hugs to ya!!!!!!!

I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.

I have worked for various health insurance companies for 35 years. Many insurance companies have a policy of 6 months - 1 year of physician supervised weight loss before they will approve wls. Some plans, like the one I currently have through work, don't cover treatment of obesity at all, under any cir****tances, so I'm glad I had my surgery while working for my former employer. Sometimes if you have been seeing the same doctor for an extended period of time and your weight has always been an issue that he noted in the chart and if you have co-morbidities such as heart disease, diabetes, etc., then he can send a letter to the insurance company appealing their decision based on those facts. Otherwise, you'll have to go with the flow, do the best you can, and get approved in 6 months. It's jumping through hoops but sorry to say, the insurance company is in control of the hoops. Good luck with it, I know it can be very frustrating.

Hi Vickie,

I'm new at all of this, just beginning the process/journey, but I did not think that WW counted as a diet-supervised weight loss program.  I could be wrong though.  My program consists of a meeting each month with the nutritionist as instructor for a six-month long series of nutrition/weight loss classes.

I can relate to how you feel.  I've been in WW a ZILLION TIMES over, do well for a while, and then gain back what I lost and then some.  That's where I am right now.  I will NEVER understand how someone who wants to lose weight so badly and desperately, even for health reasons, cannot succeed in WW or sticking to a weight loss regimen.  Is WLS the answer??  It is for some, but some gain the weight back, and that's what I'm trying to understand.  I'm fearful that I will fail after WLS, not being able to follow the strict guidelines it requires.

Any feedback from WLS veterans is welcome.

Have a Super Saturday!

Debbie

Good luck.
