No More Diabetes Medication!

Hello all!

I've not been here as often as before as I find myself falling asleep quite early at night...  I wanted to share my good news with all of you.

I had a 95%  and 35% coronary artery blockage  in December. I learned of this when I went for my preoperative exam for gastric bypass.    I had a stent put in the 95% blockage and they didnt do anything with the other.   I had to make some pretty drastic lifestyle changes immediately and it has paid off enormously.

I have to wait a year for my gastric bypass surgery, but during that year I'm getting stronger and ready for surgery. I've lost 30 lbs so far and today I got word from my doctor that my A1C blood test (tests for blood sugars over the last 90 days) was normal at 5.6% and that I can come off my glucophage!      I am beside myself with glee over this major accomplishment.

I have been exercising at cardiac 3 times a week for 1 hour and walking the other days.   This has helped my blood sugars go way down and my heart is really getting stronger with all that oxygen pumping thru the arteries.    I work out on the recumbant bike,  nu step machine, rowing machine, treadmill and lift weights.    It's all coming together ....and I have to say it again, I'm OFF my diabetes medication!!!!       I'm dancing and singing here tonite!

I hope to get back here more often.  Since I cannot have caffeine anymore, I find myself falling asleep by 10pm most nights (tho sometimes by 8!).    As my body adjusts more I'm sure I'll stay up longer and come here again.

Thank you all for your continued support.

Linda

That's Great News Linda. I am 5 yrs out fron Lap RNY & I was off all my diabetis meds for 2 1/2 yrs then had a 50 lbs regain which put all my sugars way out of control
again along with a lot of stressful stuff. So even after losing 25 of the regain still on Metformin & BP pills as well. So if you can keep the exercise going even without the
surgery & stay off of those meds that is a good thing for sure. You might keep losing
& not even need the surgery. Wouln'g the be great!!

Thanks. Im wavering now about having surgery. I do think I need it for I've done well before, but have always gained it back.

All I know is I'm going to keep going on the exercising and weight loss and if I manage to do it without surgery, it will be ok. If I can't that will be ok too!

Thanks, Connie.   I was in a dark place for a brief period, but I'm back to being 'me' again.

Thanks for being there.

That's wonderful news. Don't you just love that NuStep machine? I had to use it in PT for my knee ... I want one! I miss using it. It was so much more fun than an ordinary recumbent bike (and I can't really do a stepper because of my knees and back).

Keep it up!
