food/nutrition products
I would like to try some new food/nutrition products and I know a lot of you have favorites. I would like some suggestions as there are so many products on line and in the stores it's almost impossible to choose some good ones. I already eat the pure protein bars and I use the Unjury protein mix and I like them both but I am open to other suggestions in those categories as well as others. Just one or two things each of you finds exceptionally good for high protein content with low sugar/fat.

Barbara,
I get most of my protein from food now. Once in a while I grab a couple of South Beach bars to toss in my purse. Recently I got Whey Protein from GNC to use for a quickie lunch. The chocolate flavor was good mixed up with a couple of ice cubes.
Some sites offer samples for a couple of $$'s each. That's a good way to try products without spending a fortune on things you don't like.

Barbara....I too get most of my protein from food. Chicken, beef, pork, and seafood. I also love refied beans with cheese or beans of any kind. They are full of protein!
I personally don't like the protein mixes so if I need a protein shake I drink Boost Glucose Control High Protein Shake. I like the chocolate best. They are a little more expensive then the mixes but I think they are worth it. They are a complete meal.
I agree with you Pure Protein Bars are the best....I really like those too.

Hi Barbara,
I love Body Fortress Advanced Whey Protein (Vanilla). This is available at Walmart or Target and is very inexpensive. I mix it with non fat milk and 1/2 banana and a little crushed ice in the blender and love it. My husband drinks them also. Two of those a day gives me all the protein that I need. I'm currently in the midst of having plastics (upper body lift in 11/08 and lower body lift in 1 week) and my surgeon wants me on 100 g. protein per day. There is no way that I can consume that much protein with the supplments. The chocolate is also very good, but I like the versitility of the vanilla. I tried cookies & cream but didn't like it.
Good luck!

I get most of my protein from food, but I got in the habit of having an AchievOne shake for breakfast because it tasted like coffee (and actually had coffee in it) so it was just perfect for me ... 20g of protein, 120 calories and no carbs ... and it was ready-made, so I didn't have to think about it. I'm basically pretty lazy in the morning (well, all the time), so that was perfect for breakfast, the one meal I always skipped pre-op.
But now I can't get them (they're coming back, supposedly, reformulated for a juice box), so I've had to find other options and I've come to enjoy Nectar Latte Cappucino protein powder ... mix with some milk and ice cubes and some SF syrup and it's yummy. It is caffeine free so I add some instant coffee to give me some caffeine (I did go caffeine free pre-op and post-op, but now I've gone back to the dark side.)
I also have enjoyed Power Crunch bars ... kind of like a Little Debbie bar. The South Beach bars are good too. I don't do a lot of these, but occasionally I like to have them if I'm on the road or on vacation (I took them with me on the cruise last year and they were handy when we went on excursions where I couldn't get a decent meal.)
You can get a lot of these things from Netrition ... shipping is $4.95 no matter how much you order; they have good deals and a lot of SF syrups too.
