OT..... Just Curious
I was a phlebotomist/med.lab asst. for 20 years and worked in hospital and clinics both. Then we moved and I went to work in the radio station we bought and managed in the town we live in now. My DH had been in radio broadcasting for years. I scheduled all the advertising and also produced some commercials as well. When the station was sold, my DH and son went into the home improvement business and I was secretary/receptionist for them. I have also been a nanny and took care of a little girl for almost 5 years, then when our grandaughter was born I took care of her until she started school but still watch her after school on days her Mommy works. Believe it or not, I also worked for WW and Nutri Systems. Both good programs, but not for me. I also was available to take care of my aging parents until their demise and am available now for any one who needs me. I am retired but seem to be busy, busy all the time.
This is an interesting question and thank you Millie for starting it.

for the last 20 + years I have worked for an assortment of doctors. I worked 9 years for an OB/Gyn doctor, then was laid off from that job. i spent a few years doing part time work for other types of doctors, including a physical therapy provider.
for the last few years I have done insurance work for an Infertility specialist. I had retired from that job after a few years, but after a year at home, went back part time, since I was going crazy at home.
thats where i hope to go back when im finished healing from this silly accident, and i hope to stay there till im 62 in two years.
thats my story, and im sticking with it
have a great weekend everyone

I am the centerfold for the "Housewives of America" magazine. I have been on the cover a few times but now with the attention that I got in Wal Mart I was made the centerfold.
I have been a certified nursing assistant for many years. I did some work in nursing homes but preferred the private duty ones *******so worked as a phone operator in a answering service. We did calls for lawyers, doctor's and business'. I loved that job but not the women that I worked with. I also worked at a microfilm company, preparing files and charts for hospitals and business' for microfilming. I also filmed them and also prepared them at the ending by placing the microfilm. I kind of enjoyed it but nothing that rocked my world so to speak. I worked for a short time at Wal Mart in the hardware department. I loved doing that. But with the heart problems I have I had to give that up. I was lifting 40 pound bags of salt into a bin that was taller than I am. But then again a lot of things are taller than me. I also had to haul gallon and 5 gallon cans of paint up a ladder. Those are not good things to do with a bad back and major heart problems. But then again a lot of things are taller than me. My favorite thing at that job was mixing the paint colors. I would do that 8 hours a day and never get tired of that.
One of the most satisfying jobs that I have had is being the caregiver for my mom when she had Alzheimer's. I cherish the time that I spent with her. I learned a lot about her and I am grateful for the time we got to spend together. I am proud to be able to say that I helped her in her times of need like she was there for me all the years before.
Now I am waiting for the birth of my first grandbaby and DS and DIL asked me if I would babysit him when DIL goes back to work. I am not so patiently waiting for that to happen.
So now you know about me and the next one is...........
My work history includes summers growing up working in the fields picking strawberries and green beans for school clothing. I married young and became a legal secretary for several years before starting college at a late age....29!! I was in college for 7 years(3 degrees) and and an intern for three before getting my license. I had to have 3000 supervised hours with a psychiatrist before sitting for the exams.
My career ended up being a clinical psychologist in San Jose and Santa Cruz. A group of us who graduated together started a clinic in Santa Cruz which ended up folding because we couldn't make ends meet. I then became a house therapist in a group home for delinquent girls and a supervisor on a suicide crisis hotline. Along with that I kept a private practice going until I moved to Maui in 2001....when I officially retired.
After six years of retirement, I started to realize my savings were NOT going to get me through the rest of my life and I now work part time as a newborn hearing screener at Maui Memorial Hospital. I also work some in the offices of the agency which specializes in children to the age of six with developmental difficulties. It's a wonderful place to work....I love the people, and especially the children. Who knows where the future will take me.....I am going to have to find more work. Maybe in the foster family programs. We'll see.
Thanks for doing this........it's lovely to fill in some of the blanks with our little OFF family members.
Aloha nui loa,

Well, I always say I am retired, but no one is giving me any money! So I guess I'm just a homemaker.
In high school I worked on a farm, driving tractor, throwing hay, doing whatever, and spent a summer babysitting an elderly disabled neighbor lady.
My DH was in the Navy for the first 18 years of our marriage and I worked at all kinds of jobs all over the country. In a laundry, making salads in a buffet restaurant, inventory, substitute teacher and teacher's aide with SpEd kids, customer service for the phone company. Many years just being a Mom and doing the Cub Scout, Brownie, sports team Mom thing. When I got bored, I'd get a job.
After he retired and we moved to OR I spent 12 years working at a bunch of jobs again. Medical office manager, receptionist for a psychologist, everything in a contact lens clinic, supervisor for Harry and David for Christmas seasons, and I ran the Customer Service Center at a mall. Twice during this time my DH took 6 mo off his work and we toured the continental US (once dragging a 35' fifth wheel, once dragging an 18' travel trailer).
I***** our daughter had a baby boy who weighed less than 3 pounds. After her and her husband had each taken off all the time they could from their jobs, I quit mine and became a full time Gramma/sitter. I continued in that role til our daughter was transferred for her job (by then she had 2 kids).
Also in there my DH had an industrial accident, had major surgery on his neck, became disabled, went on SSI, and I never went back to work. Because of this, he doesn't drive any more (I did some of the dragging of the fifth wheel and all of the dragging of the 18 footer).
We moved to NC 4 years ago - bought a house at an auction. I did a short 6 weeks at WalMart (was hired as a cashier for a new store, wound up putting together shelves and fixtures and stocking the store and decided to quit before the new store opened and I was actually able to BE a cashier).
Now I'm back to doing nothing and loving it!
