Many of you talk about your jobs.  I know what some of you do but most I do not.  I thought it would be fun to hear what your job is.  Not necessarily where you work but just a brief description of what you do.   Myself, I'm semi retired and will be looking for something part time soon.  Not sure where yet.

How about you......  what is it you do?

Hi Millie, great idea!

I've been a hairdresser for 33 years this July. During that time I've taught beauty school, worked as an educator for two major product companies, become a Master Nail Technician with Creative Nail Designs, worked on stage at hair shows and conventions and as a salon design consultant.
Before going to beauty school I was a Certified Nurse's Aide and planned on nursing school, but I couldn't work out my school/work schedule, but it did work out for beauty school. So, here I am.

After getting carpal tunnel I had to leave hairdressing and was trained to do medical billing. Yeah, I know, can't do hair but I could work on a computer all day? After 4 years of that and nearly going insane I decided I'd had enough and went to work in the law office where my husband worked. WRONG!  Love the guy to death, just can't be with him 24/7. So, that's when I decided to go back to doing hair and haven't regretted it since.

Right now I'm still working behind a chair in Little Rock as well as working with my DIL, Tess on a new business venture called Saint Bella Bath Company. We make a great line of bath and body products that are healthy, humane and ethical.  Hopefully we'll have our website up and running in the next 10 days(been saying that for a month now, but I think this time it's true).

Well, that's my life for the last 33 years!

Morning Millie and Susan:
I retired after 36 yrs. from a major supplier of products to the RV industry in 2001 - I worked in the office there.  In 2002 I accepted a temporary job with a local bank working part time discharging pd off mortgages -  typing a legal document.......seven years later I am still with the bank and busier than ever right now.   I have also taught piano for the past 6 yrs, but am retiring from that in May.  I do a lot of volunteer work with my church and also lead a bariatric support group, so I keep really busy.

hi millie!
i would have to say that my background is retail , either sales or as a cashier. i've held some factory jobs and even as a night auditor for a hotel-that was interesting and fun! i also have worked in banking as a teller for many years and in insurance in the accounting dept of a large brokerage.
currently , i work in records retention for our county clerk of courts office -that means that
we take court documents and digitalize them for future so eventually the world can become paperless....i am presently working on traffic tickets but prefer the common pleas work --tho it's dirtier it's more interesting!

i spent a great number of years as a stay at home mom only working when hubby was laid off from the steel mil- he really wanted me home- but i enjoyed party plan for tupperware, mary kay and rubbermaid...as well as selling avon....he didn't treat any of those as real jobs, tho.....

I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.

This is an interesting thread.  I've often wondered what everyone does for a living.

I've been an RN for almost 40 years, the last 20 working for New York State, first in developmental disabilities, and for the last 12 years for the Dept of Corrections.  Interesting job.....

I'm planning on retiring in April 2010, if the economy lets me.  Between the state taxes and the federal taxes and the state of the economy, I may have to add a few years onto that, but I'm hoping to squeeze by.  No way of knowing until the date gets closer.

What about everyone else??

Hi all,

I spent many years as a stay at home mom with my oldest as she is a slow learner.  Then did demo jobs with small appliances for years.  After my son was born I stayed home again, then taught micro cooking for a few years, then worked as clerk in Federal govt for a couple and now am home again by choice.

I now look after my granddaughter 2-3 days per week and love it.

It's fun hearing what everyone does while they're not posting to OH.

I work in Personnel at a public school district. Typically this time of year we are busy hiring new teachers for the next year plus maybe even an administrator. This year is different, however. Last week we had to give "pink slips" to 14 temporary teachers and another 35 permanent teachers are being notified this week that they may not have jobs next year.

I love working in HR and have spent over 20 years in this capacity (of which 2 prior jobs were with major manufacturing corporations). I went to work in the public sector hoping that I wouldn't need to be dealing with layoffs so much. What I find amazing, however, between the two jobs is that our teachers have so much "class" that when they are asked to come to our office to receive the bad news, they have all come in prepared to hear what they realize is necessary but come with a smile on their sweet faces and tell us that they realize how difficult a job we must have. We in HR have been blown away by their compassion and understanding. So here's to all of the teachers out there who show incredible "class" both inside and out of their class.

Thanks for letting me share. It's an awesome job!
