Hi Margo and my OFF family:

Just got back from a late breakfast with Nan Horten at Cracker Barrel. She was good and got a small breakfast; I got a skillet breakfast and so have leftovers. But man, was it good. Couldn't fini**** of course, but I don't mind leftovers. It was great to see her and chat.

After she left, I went down the street to Wal-Mart. Now I know why I don't go there anymore. No handicapped spots open, so Iimped from the closest spot available. Get in the store, only one electric cart available. Turn it on and every time I stopped, it started backing up. So I asked the greeter if there was another one available. He said they only had two and the other one was in use. Well, that was ridiculous. A big store like Wal-Mart only has two electric carts? They have a sign out front saying they want to help their customers with disabilities ... this isn't helping! I said I'm going to Meijer, and I left. Then I went to Kohl's to look for my blender (I know exactly where their housewares are and it's not a long walk.) Got a pretty good deal ... could have gotten nearly the same one that I broke Sunday for $14.99 for a floor model ... also had a pro model Oster blender marked down from $89.99 to $29.99 but it was missing the stopper on the top. In the end, I got a Black & Decker with a glass jar for $33.99. Also some George Foreman grill sponges (mine have died many months ago ... they come in handy cleaning the grill). I'll never go back to Wal-Mart ... give me Meijer anytime! they have lots of electric carts, and they all work!

Got home and talked to Carla for awhile before getting online. I feel a nap coming on. Didn't sleep all that well because my knee has really been hurting lately ... like a tightness at the top of the knee. I have been doing my exercising and trying to loosen it up, but boy it hurt like hell last night at work and when I came home. It's a little better today.

Well, not much else going on. Margo, glad the numbers are up. Laureen, hope things will be better for you. I have been laid off like you (although I had two weeks to plan for it and it was a job I hated).

Hang in there. Have a good day.

Hi All,
I have a little break- I've been out of town testing a child for my district. He's in a special placement for out of control kids. I can't imagine him being out of control at all. He is a sweetheart!
It's beautiful here today- a few clouds roaming over with a mostly sunny sky. The rain will be back, but it's been good too. We are having another drought year so every inch helps.
I will be going to a school board meeting tonight. All over CA the lay off notices are going out. We are losing many teachers and others to the budget crunch. No speech therapists will be laid off (they are in high demand) so my job is very safe thank goodness. The whole recession is such a huge mess that I wonder what this will end up doing to all of us. My husband works for Gallo and his job is safe too. They are selling more wine than ever....except for the high end bottles (which does hurt them). Keep buying your wine!
One more little complaint. My TOPS chapter entered my daughter in their "Greatest Improvement" contest. She didn't win, but we knew going into it that it was a real long shot because it is obvious that TOPS is not very positive towards WLS. They do include us in awards but we are separate from the others and can't win the big awards at all. But yesterday the magazine came out with the winners of the contest and it made me sad that they didn't choose my daughter- she would have been a much better choice- truly. I'm looking at the pictures very objectively. Not one of the winners had WLS. My TOPS chapter couldn't believe it either... they saw the before and after for Laura and the change was astounding. It makes me wonder how many other WLS TOPS members were overlooked that may have even been more deserving than Laura. Their head of public relations did call Laura to ask if they could use her story in the press and the magazine. She hasn't responded yet- and probably won't. We are both very disappointed in the organization right now. They want to use my daughter to be an example of what TOPS can do, but they ignored her in their contest. TOPS didn't make this change in her- WLS did. They need to embrace it as a legitimate tool that could help many of their members.
Anyway- enough sour grapes. I just needed to get it off my chest.  Thanks for listening.

julia...i feel the same way that TOPS should acknowledge wls and i don't blame you for being disappointed and your daughter for not responding!

anyone trying to lose weight needs all of the positive support that we can get!!!!
