You got me thinking Karen, here's my thought, now don't  say anything till I finish........heehee.
I'm a thinking we are all of an age that we have pretty much seen most if not all that can go on with another human being.  We have so much input that it is extremely hard to wait to give our very useful advice........See, I can even  talk over you in an email.
I will try and improve my poor habit of flapping my senior jaws.
Hope to meet you soon so we can see if we have solved the lose lip lament.
My newest Bad habit.  At the age of 62 & 9/ 12ths, I have discovered beer. Now I have known wine for a few years, mixed drinks, not so much. I have been checking out different brands, still in the learning stage. The honey man  laughs when I buy a different brand, I just tell him I'm in the discovery mode.  This could become a problem , seems like I'm making up for all thoes years I hated the smell of beer. The way I'm going to start solving my new habit is , I just won't buy beer.  I'll check back with the ongoing saga.  Bye , dear work in progress, Peg in overalls, we've been out digging up rocks this afternoon.

Karen, I too have this problem. I've been trying to work on this also. Some one asked my sister if I was ok because I wasn't talking as much. I have been getting alittle better at it. Sometimes I can't help it. Especially if it's something I'm excited about. I just though it was funny that someone asked If I was ok because I wasn't talking as much.
I've even had people to tell me that since I've had surgery that I'm not as talkative. Maybe it's because I'm listening more. I don't know.
I have another problem....I'm a shopaholic. I've gotten worse lately and I have several credit cards to use too. But one thing is I do pay my balance every month. I don't let it run over. I plan on getting rid of all my cards but one so when I retire I will not try to live beyond my means. I think I do this because I can. I love to buy kitchen gadgets. I don't have anymore room for them now. So I will have to get rid of some before I buy anymore.
My son told me to please get rid of all my junk before I get too old so he wouldn't have to go through all this stuff when I die. I know why he said this. We had to go through all my Mom's stuff after she died. I took weeks. There were 4 of us going through the stuff. She saved everything. I too have the pack rat problem to a degree. Not as bad as Mom but bad enough.
So we all have our own little quirks but that makes us who we are. So we are all works in progress.
Karen , you are not alone.

I just went through my mom and aunt's houses in the past two years; both saved everything and lived in their houses for over 50years. And. . . I just sold a house, built a house and emptied 3 storage units. Yep, I've got your same "save everything" bug. I'm not too much of a shopper except antique and thrift stores, but man oh man it just kills me to get rid of anything. I guess I have more than one habit to break! You are not alone.

If you ever come to my house, you will see that my worst habit is that I cannot throw away a book.  I buy them, read them, and save them.  I have shelves and shelves of books.  Sometimes, I take a few down to my house in the valley where I store them in my "book room" as my grandson refers.  Also, I am obsessive about my kitty.  Like, for instance, I don't want her to drink city water.  I know, it's nuts.  I buy her bottled water.  It's the best buy water, but it is still bottled.  I know if given the chance, she'd drink right of the toilet, but I feel the city water is too contaminated with chemicals and other things.

When are you coming to Arkansas?

Geeze, You all keep reminding me of other "habits" that I need to clean out. I too have book and dish fetishes as my husband calls them. I'm always going to re read my favorites. I've got hundreds of books that haven't been read once yet let alone re read. But I love them. And hard backs especially. I would love to have an old fashioned library with ceiling to floor bookshelves, one of those library ladders, and a fireplace, and cozy furniture. . . And the dishes. Everywhere I go I bring home a big dinner plate. When we have pot lucks I use those instead of paper plates. If one gets broken. . . oh, well, I have to get another!

Jeannie, I hope to get back to Arkansas in the next couple of years. I'd love to come in the early fall. Looks like it will be 2010 before that can happen. I've been looking for a calendar that is for several years so that I can kind of map out some trips. When I come back that way I usually come into St. Louis, visit family, and then take off and head to Arkansas and anywhere else my hankerings take me. Would sure like to see you and Jan again and meet Susan in Little Rock.Oh the rock hunting and wandering you, Jan, and I could do this time around!

Jan, you, and I could meet up with Susan in Hot Springs and head over to the diamond field.  There's a really cute little inn there and Jan and I talked about staying there.  It's in the mountains of southern Arkansas and is just breathtaking.  I'll put you up and we'll have a blast.

Karen....good post....thanks.

I too am working on being a better listener and not interupting. I always feel I will forget what I want to say if I don't say it right away. Now I wait and many times the thought is gone before I get to say it....oh well!!

I have way too many books...need to start getting rid of some. I read it and think I need to save it in case I want to read it again. I never will so I need to say goodbye to them. My daughters have been after me for years to get rid of them as they are great dust collectors. I have asthma and COPD...I know they are concedrned about my health....plus one day they don't want to have to deal with them...LOL.

Hugs....connie d

Who me, bad habits, nope, not me.  You must be referring to everybody else!  Oh wait, I confess there are a few.  The biggest being I'm a pack rat, clutter bug, junkman's daughter.  I can't throw anything away.  I might need it someday, somebody might be able to use it.  If you can make the effort to fix your problem, I'll give it my best to fix mine.  Starting tonight when I get home, I'm going through the house with a BIG trash bag and throw away some clutter.  Who knows, I might even find something useful!

Must of the bad habits you all have confessed to I also have. I'm concentrating on the keeping my trap shut and listening for the next couple of weeks. Then perhaps I'll take on another one. I really know it is rude to constantly interrupt and I want to stop. Someone mentioned doodling and taking notes. Perhaps I need to do that. Because my memory is so short these days, I do forget what I wanted to share. Oh maybe, it wasn't that important! Thanks for the thoughtful responses.
