LAB TARGETS

This is NOT medical advice, just my own targets for the main blood levels I watch.

Protein: 7's

Albumin: 4's

Pre-Albumin: 20-30's

Iron: 80-100

Ferritin: 200-300

HGB: 12+

HCT: 36+

Vit A: 60- 80

Vit D: 80-120

Calcium: 9.0-9.4

PTH: 20-40

Vit B1: Mid to top of range

Vit B6: Mid to top of range

Magnesium: Mid range (but also go by if we have leg/foot cramping)

Zinc: Mid range

Vit B12: 1000 +

Folate: Top of range

AST (sgot): Below 40

ALT (sgpt): Below 40

We usually want to "meet or beat" pre-op levels. In some cases, higher is better, and in other cases (Cholesterol, PTH for example), lower is better.

The only things *I* don't mind being on the high end of out of range are Ferritin and B12. But that applies to ME.

My doctors don't show interest in any of these until I am out of range. *I* am interested when I begin heading that direction.

Aloha Joan.....I just had almost ALL of the tests Darlene just listed......took something like 7 or 8 vials of blood. All was good, even news that I could reduce Vit. A to 3 times a week rather than 5, and my cholesterol was excellent....154 I think, and the HDL, the healthy kind went up 30 points!!

It's so good that we have this kind of measure of our health since we do eat so differently than others, but must always remember to take those daily handful of vitamins our nuts prescribe. I am religious about that....even brought all of them with me in a little two week separated box. I have added (just for my own benefit) Omega 3 fish oil, Olive leaf extract, and glucosomine/condroitan for beginnings of arthritis in several places.

Let us know your results.

Aloha nui loa,

Maui Karen (From chilly Calif!!.........I have such a COLD!!...I can hardly speak....and when I yell at my grandbabies, I croak!! Big mean old tutu!! LOL<

Karen

I don't believe for one minute you yelled at those grandbabies or if you did they got a big hug afterward.  Your visit in California will be over before you know it so give them hugs, hugs and more hugs.

I, too just had my cholesterol checked and it was 157 so I was happy.  I have, however, been neglecting to take my vitamins.  I used to take them religiously.  I'm not sure how I got out of the habit but I must get that going again.
