Thanks Margo,

That was a nice warm hug.

The men are busy at work installing the new furnace. I feel sorry for them working in the cold basement and deliver coffee so they have a tiny bit of warmth.

Good Morning again Everyone,

That rain that I was talking about is now coming down solid and white!!!  You guessed it!! It is snowing down here!!!  We are only 35 miles from the ocean and snow!!!!  Wow, It looks so pretty and I know that those of you who see it all the time are sitting there saying yeah right!  We see so little of it here it is an event and they close down everything!  Which is a good thing, because most of the idiots on the road don't know what they are doing!  Having moved around as much as we did we are accustomed to driving in many different conditions including snow, but I know to stay home because of the others out there around here!!

Well I am working from home today!  So see you all later!

Hugs,
Vera  LapBand 8/12/2008

Hi Vera and my OFF family:

It's so strange to be up when the sun rises, but beautiful. The last couple of days, there was this beautiful pink glow over the snow-covered golf course that I look over as the sun rose. I don't usually get to see this because, when I work late and stay up til 2 or 3 in the morning, I don't get up this early. It is quite a lovely site. If it wasn't below zero at the time, I would have snuck outside with my camera and taken a photo. But I'm not stupid.

It's now 1 degree above zero. Still too cold. I'm bundled up in three layers. I have my electric fireplace on, which I now know is not functioning properly. Which may be why my electric bills have been so high the past two months (or it may be the Christmas lights ... I don't know ... this thing was supposed to take the electricity of a coffeemaker, but last month's bill was as high as a summer bill with the air conditioner going). I called the HeatSurge place and told them what was happening with it (it's not flickering anymore), and they said it was malfunctioning. I bought the extended warranty (it wasn't that expensive), and the customer service rep said they'd send me a new one, as soon as I'd send the old one back. She asked if I still had the box. It's been nearly a year, I don't have a lot of room and no, I don't have the box, I told her. She told me to go out and get one ... I would have to purchase one, then get this fireplace into it. And all with one hand on a cane. I told her I just had knee surgery (all right, it's been a month, but still, I have a minor handicap at this point). So she said they'd send the new one first, then arrange for the old one to be shipped back ... so I could use the new box. OK, I can handle that. I can have my cleaning lady help me (she helped me get the old one out of the box ... it's not really heavy, just awkward).

I did better junk-food wise yesterday ... stuck with good snacks, although I still did too many, but I tried to stick with healthier ones. Nuts and raisins, for one; my turkey rollups, for another. Made another batch of those. I think the problem is I'm just so bored sitting at home, I want to eat all day. No matter that I have things to do, I either eat or sleep. I really just want to get out of the house, but it's so cold (so why do I want to go out? Good question ... I'm bored!)

Also called my health food store yesterday and they still have two cases of AchievOnes for me ... yippee! I was afraid they had sold them when I didn't come for them quickly enough. I'm going to go get them after PT on Thursday ... big trip for me to drive into Grand Rapids.

Cleaning lady is coming today at 1, and I'm going to talk to my psychologist also at 2:30 over the phone ... I really need to get my emotional eating under control or I'll start gaining weight, and it's something that terrifies me. I haven't started to do that yet, but I'm so afraid of doing it. I don't want to go back to old fat Eileen ... it's so easy to drift back to those old habits. She was really a sad person, so unhappy in so many ways.

Carla is on my mind today, too ... I hope she can come through her pill OK. Carla, I know you're not reading this, but know we all love ya, and this is the beginning of the end of the that nasty cancer.

Well, I want to go watch the inauguration ... now the temperature is 0. Geez, it's getting colder, not warmer ... and wind chill is -10. Is it ever going to get warmer?

Geez Eileen, I just bought one of those Heat Surge fireplaces....so far it's working great, but I know my light bill will probably $20 higher, but that's sure better than a gas bill over $200!!   Anyway I bought the extended warranty too, and I have the box saved out in my garage just in case.   I wanted something that wasn't made in China so that's why I got the Heat Surge from Ohio, then I looked on the back and the insert part is
.....drum roll......"MADE IN CHINA".....omg can't the usa make anything here?

Hope you get your replacement soon.

Pat

Judy,

Glad to hear that Rick didn't have a heart attack.  Hopefully with rest he'll continue to get better.  You're both in my prayers.

Hello Vera and all of my OFF family,

We spent the weekend with the grandbabies who AGAIN have a nasty cold. They were sick Christmas too. Seems like about every 3 weeks they get a new one. They go to daycare so I guess it's to be expected. Anyway, they felt so bad and have fevers and Erin works from home 4 days a week so to make a long story short I'm still here. Mike had to get home so he took Maggie and went home and left me stranded by choice. I'll take the train home on Thursday afternoon. Hopefully Hannah and Clara will be well enough to go back on Thursday morning. They are feeling better but Clara is still running a fever. They are so congested that it's hard for them to sleep and their coughing keeps everyone awake. I remind myself that "It's just a cold" and they'll have many more of them.

I'm so thankful that so far they are healthy with no significant problems. Reading about Connie's Nic's battle with cancer from age three humbles me. I know we would rather go through it ourselves than have to watch a little one suffer. Nic is such a trouper. I guess that is about all he knows. He so deserves to be whole and healthy and I so hope that he is on his way to that. What an appreciation for life he must have.

Clara's catching a short nap and Hannah's playing in the pile of dirty blankies in the laundry. No favorite yet but her pink "silkie" is in the pile and she loves to rub the satin binding on her cheek.

Erin's trying to get an hour or so of work in upstairs while I mind the fort down here. So. . happy Tuesday all wherever you are. I hope to reply to some posts later. Seems like many of us who are 1+ years post surgery are finding out what we are made of. The honeymoon is over and we need to reach down, pull up our hip boots and wade through the muck! We can do it with a bit of help from our friends. Hang in there and have a good one.

I don't know if this would help but my children's doctor told me eons ago when Matthew was a baby and stuffed up to use sal****er, an eye dropper, and a baby suction thingy to help clear his congestion.  I was up with him in his infant seat and me napping on the couch all night because he was so stuffed up he couldn't breathe which of course made him cranky and the resulting crying kept everyone else up.  I would use the eyedropper to put the saline in one nostril and then immediately use the suction thingy to suck out the loosened mucus.  Then repeat with the other nostril.  It didn't last forever but it gave us both a couple of hours sleep until I'd have to repeat the process.  It's been ages since my children were babies so there might be better more modern ways to accomplish the same thing but I just thought it might help,
