Good morning everyone
I slept a decent amount last night so my morning started out just fine. My Health club has a system called body gem that figures out the number of calories you burn. I don't know exactly how it works but you have to be relaxed and calm ( which can take about 15 minutes...they check your resting heart rate ) . You have to fast for 4 hours, have done no exercise for 4 hours, no caffiene, or tobacco, or supplements or meds containing ephedra etc. It is supposed to be very accurate. I decided to have this done. I made the appointment for 11:00 today. Did not eat this morning, take meds, etc. Went to walk out the door and I CANNOT FIND MY KEYS ! ! ! ! ! ! I am so mad at myself. I have absolutely no memory of where I put them. I have a hook I always put them on (obviously not). I remember coming home last night and unlocking the door. I had my hands full with the mail etc. so I thought maybe I set them down with that. no luck.... I have given up. I guess I'll find them when I am not looking. I do have a spare but of course DH has it on his keyring instead of in the key jar. I also had a riding lesson set for this afternoon. The worst is I have to do the fasting thing all over again. If I could get an early morning apt. this would not be an issue but I can't. So tomorrow it will be at 1:00pm. DRATS
Hope everyone's day turns out better than mine morning.

Hi Linda,
I had the MedGem test done in August and it is very helpful for maintianing my weight. It tells you how many calories you need just to breathe and your organs to function (resting metabolism rate) then from there it's calculated for your individual caloric needs. It's pretty dead on accurate and has really helped me.
Hope you find the keys by tomorrow!!!

I did find my keys and I made it to the gym and had my body gem done today. I knew I had a slow metabolism but I hoped it would be better than it is. My results were 1190. So I don't burn even 1200 calories without exercise. Guess I had better step up the moving. I hoped it would be at least 1500. I want to revamp my eating plan but I don't have much room to revise. At my rate I could only eat about 300 cal per meal with 2 100 calorie snacks. Then I would have to burn about 500 calories a day to loose a pound a week. Got to do some planning here.
How were your results?

Amature! LOL I went to a Registered Dietitian to do it and my resting metobolic rate was 940. She took that number and multiplied by 1.5 to account for my "Lifestyle Level"( in other words, how much I move about during the day). I need 1410 cals to maintain. That's 175 grms carbs(50%), 70 grms protein(20%) and 47 grms fat (30%). I play with it a bit and do 80(or more) protein, 150 carbs and try to stay under 30 % fat.
She said weight training would be the best for me at this point.

Thanks for the info. I wasn't sure about the percentage of carbs/fat/prtotein I should have and my dr. recommended nutritionist is clueless. My Personal Trainer knows a lot about nutrition and has a degree in exercise physiology something like that. He is very knowledgeable but hasa only one other client that has had wls. However, his recomendations are close to what you are doing. He said 60% carb (good carb of course) 20-30% protein, 10-20% fat. But he also said he tries to make things simple. Which means good lean protein, good carbs, and a set number of servings of fat. If you do that you don't really need to count anything. (his opinion). He advises using fresh or frozen veggies and no boxed anything. I agree that if you eat good foods prepared simply there is no need to worry about calories, grams of this or that, or anything else. Of course if I could do that I would never have been in the position of needing WLS. I am making better choices most of the time. I try to only use Barilla Plus pastas and Brown rice. I have converted to the Barilla Plus pasta, that was easy, it really taste good. I also love brown rice, but some dishes that my DH prepares are from his childood and he just doesn't think it is authentic if brown rice is used instead of white. I still have work to do to get the white rice out of the house. He does like brown rice so I cook it when I am not fixing a Turkish dish.
My trainer wants me on 1500 calories. That would allow me 3 meals at 400 and 3 snack at 100 each if divided evenly. However, he says you should eat your largest meal for breakfast, a little less at lunch, and dinner should be your lightest meal. He says it should be consumed no later than 3 hours before bedtime. What do you think?
I would like to loose another 30 lbs but I am not obsessing about it. My goals are to become more agile and flexible. To be stronger and have better balance. I am going to the Galopagus Islands where Darwin did his research or the Origins of the Species in late April. It is going to be an arduous trip and I want to be able to explore and enjoy everything. That is why I have joined the health club and hired the personal trainer for a few sessions. I have about 3 months to get in good condition. I'll be doing cardio on my own ( bike and or pool) and do weight training and stretching with Steve. Wish me luck.
