Grazing and another question

Is there anything wrong with "grazing" when you're only 4 weeks out?  I can't seem to get in all my nutrients and proteins without doing this since I can only eat a little bit at a time.

Also, wondered if anyone experienced this ... I'm getting in all my liquids and urinate frequently with no problems but never FEEL like I have to pee.  Do you think it has something to do with recovering from the surgery?

My Dr. was pretty specific about only 3 meals a day unless it is a planned and measured snack.  I would be careful of grazing.

I think you may want to call the Dr. about the "peeing" problem.

I'm seeing from the other post here, difference of opinions, which is why I will suggest that you be in touch with your surgeon's office for what their instructions would be.  Just a question, did you have a nutritionist in your place of surgery?  If so, please contact them, or a nurse at your surgeon's office.  They should have given you clear instructions on what and how to get through the early stages of your new life.

However, the place I had my surgery, has their patients on 6 eating times per day but at your stage you will have issues getting it all in, do the best you can, grazing is not a good thing, but I don't think at such an early stage there is a concern with it.

There will be others with ideas for you, but try protein shakes, making them with skim milk bulks up the protein content, it make take time to get it all down, but do what you can.  But 3x a day is not what you should be doing, I have not heard of anyone on my home board being told less than 5x a day, 3 meals, 2/3 snacks and protein first, 64 oz of decaffienated fluids, vitamins and calcium supplements. . .

The other question was not something I have any experience with.

Good luck, Laureen

Grazing might not be the term that you want to use. I think of grazing as mindlessly eating when my body has already had what it needs. I'd sure talk to a doctor or nutritionist. I know I felt like I'd never be able to get it all in those first couple of months. It DOES get better!

I guess I don't really mean "grazing" - it's more like I eat what I can and then about 1-1/2 hours later I eat a bit more.  Not because I'm hungry or even really WANT it - just to get in all the protein!

I was told 3 meals a day with 2 protein drinks.  I found that I can hold alot more water because now, I have alot more room for the bladder.

I know everyone is different and so are the doctors. I relied on 2 protein shakes a day for about 6 months to insure that I got in enough protein. Sounds like you're doing very well to me. You're not eating junk; you're trying to get in the necessities to keep you healthy.

As early as 4 weeks, I wouldn't call it grazing --- just spreading out your nutrition which makes sense with such a tiny little pouch that is still healing.  (Unless your Surgeon's office says different!)  Do whatever your surgeons's office says.

Re: not feeling that you have to pee......   I'll bet it's because your tummy is no longer so full --- when it was very full, the tummy presses on the bladder, causing you to go more often.  It's kinda nice, right????

It's WAY nice!  Especially since I travel all the time and won't have to worry about going to the bathroom on a plane - which I HATE!!

"Going to the bathroom on a plane". I wouldn't even go NEAR the bathroom. It is always right in front of people. And at 377 lbs I was so afraid that even if I got through the door, that I wouldn't be able to shut it from inside. I had had that problem in restaurant bathrooms before. It was certainly a real fear. Now I sometimes go on the plane just to prove that I can!! I had to wear maxipads daily before WLS. Now having lost 180 lbs I very seldom even have an "urgent" feeling. Another WOW!
