I'm sitting here feeling a little foolish --- of all the meaningful things I could be doing, I have been spending my time making crochet hearts (for Valentine's Day?).   Touble is, I can't think of how they can be used, if at all.    Any ideas?   Here, I have stitched two together, making a pouch that is open at the top.   It could be filled with goodies (oh, no - candy?) & given to GrandDaughers.....     Any other ideas?

Well I really think that they are beautiful! Are they big enough to use as potholders?  I think they would be so cute hanging up in the kitchen.

Thanks, Marcia.....   I think they're a little small for a potholder, but if I use a bigger hook it would work fine.  I think I'll do that, thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks for the link, Darlene.   I've used the free crochet patterns, but I never knew you could search them by theme.  Lots of other good heart project there for me.  Thank You

I think that is beautiful!

You know, I do alot of crochet too.  Sometimes, I even just sit down and start stitching and decide as I go, what it will be.  For me, it's not so much the end product but the PROCESS.

I can give you all kinds of reasons WHY I crochet:

1. I have the wool and hate having stuff sitting around

2. Im keeping my fingers nimble

3. I dont feel like I'm wasting time just staring at the TV if I'm crocheting at the same time

4. It keeps my hands busy so I don't snack.  you know the old saying about "idle hands & thre devil"...

5. I can show off my fancy manicure, flashing my      diamond-studded pinkies as I hook the wool

6.  I provide entertainment for LilyRose who usually runs off with a huge ball of wool in her teeth

7. The project keeps my "lap" warm....I'm always cold.

8. I can impress people...I'm MULTI-TASKING!

9. It's always nice to have a few hand-made "gifts" sitting around..just in case

HOWEVER, the truth is that crocheting is SOOTHING to me...I can hook away without even looking at the stitches..I can crochet by "feel".  Crocheting RELAXES me, calms my nerves, slows my breathing and heart rate and lowers my blood pressure.

So, please do not ever feel that your needlework is useless...far from it!

As for applications? stuff them with scented potpourri for a pretty sachet for lingerie drawers and to hang in closets.

Remember it's not so much the project, it's the PROCESS! *s*

thanks, Nancy.   I can see that I knit & crochet for many of the same reasons you do.  Unfortunately, I find that I can snack & crochet at the same time.   I think they are just the right size to stuff with potpourri, & that is so much better than candy.   Thanks for the idea.  You're right, it's the process that makes it fun!

I was going to suggest potpourri!  Years ago when my kids were in grammar school, I made felt hearts that looked similar to you crocheted ones, with the crisscrossing, whip stitched them together leaving an opening and stuffed them with potpourri.  They were a hit and calorie free!

Martha would probably paint a branch white and tie them on it with red yarn for a lovely valentine tree.  The question is, where do you store the branch until it's time to hang spring eggs on it?

They might also be useful as waiting room favors at the cardiologist's office, but make them pay big bucks before you transplant them there.

Did you do the basket weave that you have the heart on?  It's very nice.
