Fall Get-2-Gether in New York?
Now put on that thinking cap and speak to me of things you've wanted to do if you came to the Big Apple. . .

I need your input on things you'd like to do, so we can pick a few and create an itinerary that gives everyone a taste of what they want to experience while here.

I tried to PM you, but your information is not on here. . . anyway, I am compiling an e-mail list to correspond privately with those parties who have expressed interest, it will be a way to communicate without polluting the boards with this, though periodically, I will post to the board about it. So please, if you will send me an e-mail address and if you would like to share your telephone number, though not necessary, kindly do so at the earliest.
I now have 4 rooms reserved and am trying to see if there will be a need for more and if anyone wants to stay additional days, the manager has told me that I need to let him know in order to get the rate he quoted me which with tax is about $221 per night, per room, which if 4 people share a room is very reasonable, amounts to about $165 for the three nights. I have yet to get to the hotel to make sure it is in a safe area and what not, as it is not on 5th Avenue, but I believe on 9th Avenue, about 2/4 blocks from Penn Station, which is a very central location to get around NYC.
Anyway, I look forward to hearing back from you if you are still interested in coming in the Fall.
Take care, Laureen

One thing I would like to do is get some knock-off things from the street.
One thing I do remember when I was there was a big street type fair on the main street in Manhattan right outside our hotel. It stretched for quite a few blocks. I don't know if that was a one time thing or they do it all the time. They had lots of vendors and a lot of food vendors. It was fun to walk around there, got lots of exercise back when I hated it.
I too would like to see Ground Zero area. Maybe a carriage ride in Central Park again. The John Lennon Strawberry Fields site in Central Park. Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island(we bought my MIL a brick there for her anniversary of being in America). There are things that some may want to do and other don't. If you just give the ones that want to go somewhere directions you can send us on our merry way. You know not everyone agrees on what to do and it does get hard keeping a large group together. We bought a weekend subway pass to get around.

Mary,
From what you are describing, it sounds like you were there during one of the many Street Fairs that happen and you may get lucky like that again, however, there is an area near Chinatown, Canal Street, where I believe you can find those knock-offs, there are also some on the streets at times, so no problem and yes, I do realize when you have a bunch of folks together, people will want to go off and do their own thing, so I will provide folks with a subway and bus map and general directions, as well as we will all be in touch via cell phones and despite New Yorker's reputations, they are generally a helpful bunch when it comes to giving directions, so it will be easy enough to navigate. The weekend pass would work or even a weekly pass, depending on how many days everyone decides on, as I said, I think because of the size and scope of NYC, it might be best if everyone arrived Thrusday afternoon, which gives us that evening and all of Friday, Saturday and a part of Sunday for those not rushing home or to airports, but that can be determined once I have the prices of the motel, which now that I have an idea of how many are genuinely interested I sent an e-mail to the manager I met on the commute home a month or so ago. I asked him about the 1, 2, 3 with checkout on 4th and the 15, 16, 17 with checkout on the 18th as well, explaining we were all looking for a cost effective way to visit NYC and that the 1st and 15th were not necessarily going to be included, so we shall see what I find out.
It seems we've already got a good plan forming as to things to do and I definitely like the idea of the Good Morning America Show with a poster of us OFFer's and total WL numbers, though some of us might want to be disguised ;) Either way, I'm so happy to see the people who want to come and it will be fun being a tourist in a town I've taken for granted all my life.
