Fall Get-2-Gether in New York?

I've only been through JFK. . . so I'd love to see the city. I'm up for any and all activities especially with a guide at hand. I get so easily turned around in a small town; can't even imagine NYC. Rockefeller Plaza? (Can't you just see us on the Today Show!) I'm a serious contender for this one!

Hey Karen,

I'm so looking forward to meeting you, as for airports, you can come into Newark or Laguardia too, though I imagine, coming from such a distance you would hope to get a direct flight, so I'm guessing JFK or Newark would be the best for that and yeah, I think the Today Show would be a fun idea, poster children for WLS over 50!!!

Please give me any other ideas for what you might enjoy experiencing while here. . .

Hugs, Laureen

So, OK OF COURSE I WANT TO COME!  can I commit right now? Nope.  While seeing a Broadway show would be ever so neat, I can use that $$ for something else.  Actually, maybe Melissa and i can drive there?  Not sure it would save any money or not, but.....I was in NY City once.  overnight on the way to Haiti for our medical mission trip. dark when we got there, dark when we left. Saw nada except the shamrock on Empire State Building.  I knew someone that helped design that building!  Anyway, a tour guide right there?  HEY YEAH!  I will do my best to save my $$.  It cannot be the first weekend of November for me, that is the annual basket guild weekend of weaving etc!

Debbi,

I'm very excited and happy that you and Melissa will be coming and I agree, no need to spend $'s on a show, so much else to do and unless there is a good reason why, I really want to keep it in October, as the weather usually is still nice enough to enjoy walking about the City.

Haven't heard from Margo on this, but perhaps she can do it, if she wanted to that is, if she catches a ride with you and Melissa, seeing as you gals are somewhat near one another (I think?). . .  but I'll leave the details of that stuff to all of you.  What I do need are things you would llike to do whilel here, then we can narrow the list down, if necessary and go from there. . .

Hugs, Laureen

Well it may sound a bit morbid, but I would  like to see ground zero.  So much of our lives changed that dreadful day and its impact is still being felt.
I would like to go to the top of the Empire State Building
While I won't SHOP in any of the ritzy stores, I wouldn't mind going into them JUST to look around!
I'd like to see the major sites and some of the town.
Hey, just hanging with the OFFers is a great day!

Debbie,

It's no more morbid than people who visit the sites at Pearl Harbor, the day of infamy in the last century. . .  I've been there 2x since it happened, once in November of 2001 with my daughters and then about 4 years ago, a friend of mine who had never been to NYC, asked if I would take him and I did.  I worked in that building for 8 years and was employed there when the first attack happened in '93 and one of my past fellow employees, Rosemarie Smith, died there that day, as well as the cousin of my cousin's husband, William Lum, who was my partner at their wedding, Billy worked for Marsh McLellan and probably had no clue what happened as he was at the place of impact where the first plane hit. . .  So if you wish to visit the site, that is not a problem, besides if anyone is interested in seeing the Lady of the Harbor, the ferry is not far from the WTC site. . .  Some of the ideas I have are China Town, The Village, Rockefeller Center, The Empire State Building, of course, there is also Central Park, museum row and much of this is walking distance from the motel I am checking out and the rest can be done hopping on the wonderful MTA of NYC, via subway or bus.  But as you said, just hanging with the OFFers is a great day or night!

Museums?? I LOVE museums!  Central Park!  oh yeah!  I think we should all try to get on the Good Morning America show!  Wouldn't that be a hoot?  we can have a sign saying how many total pounds that we as a group lost!  How cool would that be?  In Texas it was over 2k!

I think you are on to something Debbie, I'll be sure to get some poster board and we can all design a sign to hold up with our collective weightloss. . .  we will have to get there early.  There are many museums, Natural History, Guggenheim, MoMa and many more, sounds like we got a plan forming already.  Thanks for the input.

I'm getting super excited and it is really looking like a good group already. . .  11 sounding like a definite and 2 possibles, plus me, so that's a total of 12-14 and there are still some who have not said anything, but it's early and my main objective in doing it so far in advance was for those on limited incomes to have the opportunity to start saving from now. . .  oh well, seems like a good number who were at Pittsburgh are in, though I'm wondering if Thelma and Louise might make a guest appearance. . .
