Fall Get-2-Gether in New York?
Last year around this time, Lora & Mary were feeling kind of blah and said, hey let's put together one of those get together's. . . and they put together the Lalapalozza Pittsburgh gathering we had in early April, then there was the famous one I heard tell about in Texas that Janet did so well in Oct of 07 (I think it was around then) I was unable to attend due to a conflict of a local event and being very close to my surgery date, but there was quite a buzz about Janet's famous hospitality; more recently, this past October, there was the one Margo pulled together and they are nice ways of connecting with folks on this board and I know there have been others. . . well I stated in Pittsburgh that I would love to have you all come and visit my neck of the woods, which could be the Philadelphia area, as I now reside just 15 minutes outside of it in Southwestern NJ; but seeing as I lived in New York most of the first 5 decades of my life, I think that would be a place that everyone could come and enjoy and we wouldn't have to worry about transportation, as New York has a great public transit system, as well as lots of doable acitivities we can walk around and do and since I am a native New Yorker, and familiar with the ways to get around, I could be a sort of tour guide, though to be honest, I've never gone to the top of the Empire State building (lol), which for NYr's is not so uncommon, perhaps we could make that a group trip, or anywhere you might want to go. . .
So here's what I'm wondering. . .
How many of you would truly be interested in such a trip and could commit to it in such a way that I could go the the person I recently met, who is a manager at a motel in Manhattan, with a fairly good idea of how many rooms we would need. Then too, I want your feedback as to what sites you might want to visit and whether you would want to do a broadway or off broadway play, which might be a commitment issue, as getting tickets to the "good" shows can be harder, but we might be able to swing something with enough lead time, which is why I'm thinking the first October (10/1 or 2 - 4) weekend would be good or the 3rd weekend (10/15 or 16 - 18), as prices for Colombus Day, which is weekend in between, would make things more expensive travelwise; also the weather in New York in October is usually still pretty nice, averaging about 60s. The last thing to think about is, would it make more sense for everyone to try to arrive Thr, thereby giving everyone 3 full days in New York, as opposed to the usual Friday.
Well I've given you my proposal and now await the response to this post. In anticipation of what is to come, I am excited, but want to say up front, I will do the footwork, any funds necessary I will let you know upfront and you will be solely responsible for that end of things and will try to do what I can to anticipate all levels of economic situations and make it as cost effective for all who want to come to New York for a Fall Fantastical Tour. . .
Looking forward eagerly to your response and, hey, if anyone whose done this before, or who lives in the nearby vicinity would like to give me a hand with this, please feel free!
Hugs, Laureen

P.S. Put your thinking cap on and chime in on what you might like to do in the Big Apple, I need ideas from everyone and then we can narrow it down to doable for all, though, of course, people can pair up and do things on their own. . .

Sounds great to me. Its a go for me barring any problems that may arise in the meantime.
I bet Lora is in too. I'll have to give her a call. She's still not back to being herself since her plastics. Recovery is taking longer than she expected.
When I was in NYC we stayed at the Sheraton Manhattan. We were able to walk or take the subway everywhere. As far as a Broadway show is concerned, for me there is so much to do that if we didn't see a show I wouldn't be too disappointed. Just seeing the city and hanging out and talking with everyone will take up a lot of our time.....and we will need to sleep for a few hours.
Keep us updated.
Mary
