Jacki,

Remember that walking buddies are great but sometimes if they fizzle, we do too.  But you're right, having someone to walk with makes the walk nice.  The man who walks on the trreadmill around the same time that I do, often strikes up a conversation, but I get so focused that talking makes me short of breath and takes my focus off of walking.

Jeannie,

I'd sure like to see an updated photo of you! I still picture you as the day I met you! I have seen one or two since, but nothing recent.

I think exercise is about the best "transfer addiction" that we can have. I was so good about it for 2 years but have not been consistent this last year. So many things going on around her that I've let it slip to the back burner. Not a good thing and with a sluggish metabolism it truly is what it takes to rev it up and help me burn those calories.

How are you doing with your ulcer healing and eating issues? Are you now able to eat more protein? I know you said you were having problems for a while. Sure hope taking care of the ulcer helped that. I've had 2 knee replacements. I try running once in a while but my gait is kind of like I'm on short stilts!

However, I can walk pretty darn fast. Here in our new neighborhood I have two neighbors who like to walk also. The snow is gone again (Chinook winds last night) so I'll get dressed and outside. I take Maggie, our Yorkie, for a one miler (about all her little legs can take) then drop her off and do another 2 miles. One neighbor started a new job so I hope to do an afternoon walk with her. I don't mind walking by myself, but knowing someone is counting on ME keeps me accountable.

I will try and get a picture of me to you.  I'm all bones from the waist up and the waist down is all skin.  I never thought that I'd have so much skin around my hips and belly cause I had that tummy tuck after the first 200 pounds before wls, but I have a large amount of skin around my hips and especially those little dog ears that were just tiney are now huge.  My arms sag too.  My surgeon said plastics this summer.  My ulcer is still a huge problem and will be for a while.  The doctor said in six months if it isn't healed, then we may have to do something else.  I still cannot drink milk or soy milk or protein shakes and the only meat that I eat is chicken.  I try steak or ground beef and it comes up.  I chew it, ground it, and still find myself having to run to the bathroom.  Sometimes I even hurl the chicken.  The doc said I don't have a stricture, but I just don't tolerate the big guns.  I still struggle with carbs and find it so much easier for me to eat soft cooked vegetables as opposed to the meats.  I run anemic but did before surgery and my doctor really watches my blood work.  I became quite run down a few months back and they threatened putting in a tube directly into my intestine to feed me, so that made me take notice and I do better.  My best days are when I do nothing but concentrate on food and water. The walking is nice, isn't it?  Oh, I have a kitten.  She is so cute.

Hi Jeanie, walking is my biggest passion too as far as exercise goes but you make me look like a wimp in comparison lol

maybe we need to go Diamond hunting again ....bet we both could move around in those fields better now...

I too have a lot of excess skin down around my waist and belly, Medicare will take off the belly but wont pay for the other on my torso...and it bothers me as much as the belly does,

I am thinking about going back to work to pay for a body lift and a face lift.

did your hair grow back in thicker? or is it still thin?

So good to see you back on the board. I havent been posting much , i get so busy that i dont have as much time most of the time.  I am always pointing out my root rocks to people and telling them what you taught me about them...i think it is just so interesting....

anyway good to see you back on the board, maybe some of the other oldies will re appear, you think?

My hair is thin in places and thick in places but it came back with a little curl.  Oh, the rock, well, another scientist said that the ridges are not roots but iron deposits.  I still think they are roots.  I need a full body lift too.  I am a sagging bag of bones. LOL.  My shoulder bones just poke out through all that sagging skin.  Diamond hunting will be fun.  Let's do it this summer.

Jeannie,
I am pre op (fighting insurance exclusion with legal aid) but I am very glad to know you have found yourself able to run! I have always wanted to run,but with so much weight and bad knees I was afraid it was something I would never be able to do,even after WLS. I am so inspired! Thanks!

Holly, preop is the toughest, I think, of all this process.  It took me forever to get healthy enough to have the surgery.  I didn't even tell people when my surgery date came around because it had been cancelled so many times that I was afraid to jinx it.  Well, after a year or so, it did happen and let me tell you, the weight just began to melt away.  Even now all this time out, I still am losing.  I hope your date comes quickly and you get here beside the rest of us losers.

May be the Arkie in me but I love potted meat. It has a lot of protein if you just pretend that you don't know what it is made of. Kind of just slides on down too! Janet W has said that we could travel together so cheap. Just give us a good supply of potted meat  and spam and we're good to go. I love any kind of beans and they are good protein. Can you do things like hummus and refried beans?

My hair was curly the summer I met you and Jan, but it sure didn't last long. It's back to thick and straight and increasingly grey!

I love kittens. Just wish they'd stay that way and didn't climb all over. Don't like that cat hair on my clothes or my food!
