Oh man, I am sitting here with tears rolling down my cheeks.  Thank you so much.  I have so much going on in my life right now....work, grand daughter that we are fighting to see, son in Navy is having a difficult time, and he is near South Africa with four more months to go, and a sinus infection!  Thank you all for caring enough to respond to my whine!!

I would love to hear some of the things that you all learned while you were waiting?

Again, thank you.........gotta go blow my nose!

Hugs.........V

Hi Vickie:

I see you now understand how mu*****ommon you have with all of us. We were all where you were ... frustrated at being denied at one point, desperate to lose weight and not being able to (our bodies' metabolism have shut down, but try to explain THAT to the insurance company), afraid of becoming diabetic (it runs in my family). The insurance companies love to deny patients this surgery because they know most won't fight the denial, so then they won't have to pay. So you show them ... fight it. If they want a supervised diet ... if you have proof of being on Weigh****chers, provide it. If not, maybe just going to your doctor every month for six months and showing some motivation to lose will do the same thing.

Don't give up. This is not the end for you. Six months will go by really fast, believe me. Look at how fast 2008 went by.

Vickie....when you call the ins. co., as for the pre-approved dept. (There's another word for it but I'm having a brain fart at the moment and can't remember it.)  I talked to 3 different 'clerks', each had a different opinions as to what exactly my ins. would cover. I finally got to the right person, the one who gives the Yay or Nay to the Drs. and was told exactly what my requirements are.

I, too, have to go through a 6 mo. supervised diet. It can be with Weigh****chers and anything with 6 consecutive months over the last 24 mo. period would count. However, I decided to go with my Dr.s weight program for 2 reasons. 1) There would be no questions whatsoever abnout it being supervised properly. I don't want to spend 6 mo on WW only to be told it should have been Dr. supervised. and 2) I would be ahead of the game by learning to eat the proper things in the proper amount. Might as well make good use of that 6 months!

I figure by the time I just through all the hoops it may even be Aug or Sept. by the time I actually get my surgery. But by then I'll know everything!!  LOL!

oh vickie....gf...in common? oh yea!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ok- so many others have responded very well.....find out exactly what they are requiring.....yes; unfortunately some ins companies are saying 6 months-- in some instances it is cuz they are getting tuffer in some they are just idiots!
vickie- they WANT you to go away-they WANT you to roll over and say "oh, the ins company said no; so i must not need wls"-- they don't wanna pay!!! trust me on this one!! many many of us were denied before we got approved!!!!

every time you speak to anyone at the ins company-write down-date time who etc--just like at work!

big big hugs to you- go fight the infection and prayers for the family stuff.......

you can do this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.
