Cheryl, let me know when you figure out a solution to your sitter dilemma - We are also trying to fix it at my place.  Can't afford to use NA's all the time, can't restrain patients due to regulatory issues and don;t want them to fall!  If you can figure it out, you'll be my HERO!

Happy New Year

Hi George and OFF Family!

George at least you are someon *****cognizes when you might have caused something, so I'm sure all will be well, out with the old and in with the new!

Well I haven't had a whole lot of time to spend on the computer this last week, as Angela, my youngest daughter, is staying in my computer room, besides which when I get home from work I really don't want to be on the computer these days, I've tried stopping in to keep abreast of everyone's lives while at work, but it's been a busy end of year, but I wanted to say for anyone new, welcome, this is a great forum; for those of you having a rough time of it, please know you all are in my prayers and thoughts daily.

Today I drove into the City with my daughter, as she has it in her head to do the Times Square NYE thing, though I think she has changed her mind, either way I drove in knowing it would be a light traffic day and we made it in 1 hour 10 minutes and I parked right near the Lincoln Tunnel for a quick get away when we do leave.

Right now I'm at work, planning on leaving around 3 and from there we'll just see what we do.  I know she is going to the museum to see the Van Gogh exhibit which closes on Friday and then we might go to dinner and a movie, or if the weather is bad, then we'll probably head home and do the movie thing there, either way is fine with me (though I really don't want to be in a sea of maniacs come mid-night (lol)).

So, I want to wish you all the Happiest New Year, may 2009 bring you closer to your dreams and goals then ever before and for whatever struggles you may have to face, may you have the strength to get through them and we all have one another to help us through!

Hugs, Laureen

Good Wednesday morning all of you OFF friends.

My prayers are with all of you who are struggling, or who have family members who are struggling.

I am cheering with all of you who are succeeding and on the right path.

I am laughing with all of you who are enjoying life!

Our son and his family came over last night to watch the Oregon Ducks beat the Cowboys.  GO DUCKS!!  Consequently we didn't get to bed until after midnight.  I kept hoping it would be a 'runaway' and we could all give up and go to bed.  Didn't happen.  It was a pretty good game.

I have been researching all in one printers for awhile.  My oldest HP has a bad connection and won't stay plugged in to my computer, no matter how it is fixed.  Our daughter bought us a new HP last year, but it didn't have the fax.  So when I need to fax, I have to dig the old one out of the closet.  It will fax and stay plugged into the wall!  I'd also like to have a wireless one, so when the grandson brings his laptop down, he can print school projects.  I think I have decided on the HP J6480.  It uses the same ink cartridges as the old printer and that is a plus.  My DH and I will go to Best buy and check it out.

Then I will spend a few hours preparing food for our DIL's New Year's Eve party.  She brought all the stuff over yesterday, I just have to put it together and bake it.  She will be busy getting her house and yard ready.  We will also be getting the 3 dogs and their kennels for the evening and overnight.  She needs the space in her house!  DH and I will NOT be going to the party.  It doesn't begin until 8, and will go on for hours and hours.  We did our 'stay up late' last night!!!  I always say we celebrate New Years on Australia time!  We enjoy all of the people.  They are almost all military or retired military and my DH loves swapping 'war stories' with them (He is USN ret).  We wives can talk duty stations, etc.  But I like my snuggly bed better.

So, off to Best Buy to shop!

Have a fantabulous Wednesday!

Hi George and my OFF family:

So it's nearly 2009 ... the year has gone by so fast. I hope 2009 is mostly pain-free for me and I have a job. That's all ... oh, and Carla is healthy too. We have to get her in warrior mode ... a cancer warrior. She can beat this ... I look at my 90-year-old aunt who had a grapefruit-size tumor removed from her ovaries 30 years ago ... and ovarian cancer is usually fatal, especially back then ... and she's still alive and kicking. She thinks it's Easter instead of Christmas, but hey, she's 90, she's allowed to be a little out of it.

Carla, you know you are in my thoughts and I love you more than my own sister ... which doesn't take much, but you know what I mean ... you mean so much to me. The Big C is scary, but modern medicine is so amazing and can do so much now.

We had a little snow here last night but not a lot, maybe an inch or two. Brenda sounds like she's going home today. I think she misses her family and friends. I'm grateful for the time she was here. She helped me so much.

I need to get off the computer  now ... I think have a pinched nerve in my back and need to get back on the ice pack and get my knee up again. PT guy comes this afternoon today.

Happy New Year everyone

Good morning George & all. I sure hope everyone has a wonderful New Year!! George I also have tension in the house right now. I hope to get past it soon. Right now we have 11 grandchildren here along with 7 adults. Our house gets really small. I love having the kids here, it's 1 or 2 of the adults I could live without.
Well I have another surgery on monday. The blasting of my kidney stone didn'n do anything. So they are going to remove it surgerically. I had no problem until they tried to fix it. It is almost an inch in size. I don't do anything half way!
Carla, please know you are in my thoughts & prayers all the time.
Eileen, sounds like you are doing better a little better every day. I am so glad.
You are all in my prayers & I wish you all a wonderful New Year!!!

Good morning dear OFF friends,

George, thank you so much for the recap, it helps to form my prayers for the day.

I want to wish everyone a Happy New Year since I probably won't get on here till late tomorrow.  The girls will be here, they keep me going the whole time but I really do enjoy spending time with them. They will be home this afternoon for a little while with our daughter, she gets off at noon so should be here about 1pm.  Then she isn't leaving till about 6 to head to her best friends house for their New Years Eve party.  Everyone spends the night there so no worrying about  being on the road.  This group of friends have been getting together since they were all in High School, the only thing that changed is some have spouses or significant others now.

Well the girls are calling.....it's time for Nana's beauty shop to open...LOL!  They want their hair curled and glitter spray added, fingers and toes polished...

Hugs and out with the old year and in with the New Year!!

Aloha and good morning OFF family,

George......So sorry to hear of problems. They do seem to come and go don't they. Hopefully they will all go *poof* before the new year arrives.

Our little family sure is full of living isn't it!! One of the things I love most about the OFF is that we can come in here and share and almost always there is support, helpful information, TLC where needed, and a kick in the buh-tocks when that is appropriate...Ha!

Yesterday I did a mini marathon at Kaiser. I went there to have my hand X-rayed so I could figure out what is wrong with my thumb and my PCP ended up doing a whole physical, plus 7 vials of blood, a pneumonia shot (since I hit 65 I was due I guess), and she referred me for mammogram, for otho appointment for hand (arthritis I think), for mammogram and for physical therapy for my hand. I was at Kaiser for a total of three hours!! Good thing I had my morning free...or it would have been very frustrating!

This morning I'm doing laundry, and trying to get things organized for my trip to Calif. I sat on the living room floor last night and wrapped all the gifts for my kids/grandkids and will box them up today and get them in the mail. We'll celebrate Christmas when I get there on the 13th.

Maui has been blessed with two or three days of rain....and the hills I look at that were brown are now gloriously emerald green!! When it rains here, it still isn't cold....but you'd think it was winter in Chicago!! People out in heavy coats and boots...Ha. When it gets down to 70, we get cold!! Wonder what I'm going to do in Calif. when the temps are in the 50s. I'll borrow my son's big coats, etc.

Tonight, new year's eve, I'm staying quietly at home and will watch the fireworks down on the beach and hopefully can see the ones shot off of a barge across the bay. I am going to make a cup of something warm, and sit out on the lanai and welcome in 2009. A whole new beginning. Let's all wipe the slate clean, and start a year of growth, sharing, love, learning, wonder, laughter, solutions, and togetherness.

HERE'S WISHING YOU A VERY HAUOLI MAKAHIKI HOU!!

Aloha nui loa,

Maui Karen

Afternoon OFFers. It is snowing like all get out here in MA. The Gkids keep fighting about going outside, Emma wants out and Alex wants in.....too much wind blowing the snow around. I am doing very well, thanks George, you got it right "one day at a time". We are staying home and nesting tonight. Sara and the kids have a party to go to.  We were invited but John and I chose to stay home. Sara had me start the big pot of ragu she is making, she had to write up 2 house offers this morning and clients are coming in for a lease signing. Glad she is busy. Never made homemade sauce like this before, it is one of Sara's and the kids favorites so wish me help and luck!! Tried on one of my swimsuits this morning and John says I am TOO hot for the pool. He He, these new 15 lbs look good on my body, I was too skinny. Go back and see my PCP Friday. Hope my labs are good.
Prayers to Carla and all of us.
Happy New Year, hugs and love, Monica and the Grandfather, John

George...Thank you for your encouragement.  Sorry to hear of the turmoil you are having now. That too, shall pass. You sound like such a hard working soul. You sound like my husband.  He "retired" 5 years ago but still maintains our family home imporvement business with our son and also has a part time job at a local Flooring store downtown.  He love people and is one heck of a salesman. We have so darned much snow and cold weather right now and we're really not used to it. I travel to see my WLS surgeon again next week so I'm praying that we don't have another snow storm.  We usually always go down the day before and stay over and leave to go home after my appointment. Our son's band is playing at a local tavern tonight  so "Gramps" and "Gram" will be babysitting the darling grand daughter tonight.  We'll have fun as she brought over her Wii system already. She'll have to show us how it works though.
Hoping everyone has a Happy and Wonderful New Year and stay safe and WARM!!  Or COOL for you in the hot zones.
