OT: do you REALLY pay attention?

so- i got the mail on saturday and put it on the table - a few magazines and a catalog and a bill and two cards...read the cards..moved the catalog and mags to the table next to my chair.....so last nite i sit down and think -i should open the mail--and i see the one magazine is in plastic and has an envelope- oh crud- i musta subscribed and gotten a free month and now i have to write cancel on the bill...well- on MUCH closer inspection the outside of the envelope says " A special friend    .........................a gift"--oh no! nobody should be buying me magazines! i love this one but had stopped my own subscription a few years back...--anyhow--i won't tell ya who it was but it is an OFFer and she IS a special friend and i owe her a proper thank you note!!!! can ya believe? i almost wrote cancel????? shows that i must pay attention to what comes in the mail.....such a wonderful surprise!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How sweet, and what a coincidence.....similar thing happened to me today, too.

A couple of weeks ago Gary went to the dentist and had to have a root canal and a crown...$1800! Merry Christmas to me!

Well, his credit stinks and was turned down for CareCredit, so I decided to give it a try under my name. I got on the phone and sure enough, they denied me. Oh well, I thought, this credit thing going on in this country has gotten everyone afraid to loan anyone anything. We paid 1/2, still couldn't figure out how to pay the balance.

So, today I got the denial in the mail and it was addressed to Cindy Higgins. I knew what it was and about tossed it, but thought for a minute. Called them on the phone, and sure enough, Cindy Higgins can't get her husband's tooth fixed, but SUSAN Higgins can!!  If I had not taken just 5 minutes to clear this up we'd be eating beans and rice for the next few months to come up with the money. As it is, we'll at least be able to throw in some ground turkey....LOL

What magazine did you get??? Don't we just have the best family here??

well....cindy...if you must know...Midwest Living...it's one i love but had to do without due to finances ...so my sweetie friend got it for me---i must send her a proper thank you!

susan..wow--- my youngest son and his dad share the same first name but not the middle- and his credit was besmerched by some of his dad's stuff-and his dad was getting phone calls for bills for things that son had charged years ago....we MUST be careful!

I was getting notices from my clinic stating that "this is not a bill" so I opened some of them and then figured they were all the same so didn't open them all....dumb! I was contacted by collections for a bill of 400 dollars! I MUST open all of my mail. Lesson learned.

alice-ouch!!! i am guilty of simply putting bill lookalikes in a pile- it's about time to go thru and open things again here....

Maybe this is the same but, You think that's bad?!?  My late ex father-in-law, my ex, and my son all have the same first and last name, but not middles and when my son started college in El Paso he reported to the financial aid office because he could not pay for his classes and wanted to know what was wrong.  He found out they put my ex-father-in-laws whole name for his, my ex's social, and his address and told him his information did not match his FAFSA.  Well, he straitened out the social, but told them it was not the right name and could not disperse the money.  They argued for at least 20 minutes before he called me to tell the lady who he was and then to fax his birth certificate to him for proof.  They did not even take his DL as proof.   If he had not argued with them he would not have been able to use his grant money or loan.  Talk about paying attention!!
