Well, it's Monday - I think

Morning one and all,

My yarn and knitting have been quietly calling my name for about two weeks now. I have two projects (one vest, one cardigan) for MYSELF started a year ago and they're still unfinished in the spare room. I think a year off is enough.

The kids came for dinner last night but had to go home before the Charger game to begin their "steak out" of their yard. Seems Tess left her car unlocked about three weeks ago and a neighbor boy stole her spare set of keys that she had hidden in the car. I know, not a good thing to do, but it's done. Anyway, the little punk has taken lots of stuff out of the car, CD's, her owner's manual, Jeff's PlayStation, a box of crackers. Just crazy stuff. Well, they're so funny, they are trying to trap the little rat by shutting off all the lights and laying in front of the windows all night, determined to catch him. Stay tuned......

I have to attend a funeral today. Our esthetician's dad died a week ago Saturday and they waited to have the funeral. So sad to lose someone, but so much harder during the holidays. My father passed away on Dec 21, 1975.  It's been a long time, but not a date forgotten.

Ok, off to make breakfast and Gary's lunch. Hope everyone has a wonderful final week of 2008....

Susan

Good Monday morning, all of you wonderful OFF folks!

I'm not a knitter, but I do love to crochet and I can relate to working hours to get a project done.  Then if it doesn't look perfect, taking it apart!  Some imperfections are things only I can see, BUT I can see it, so it has to come out!

This is the first Christmas without my Dad.  I still talk to him every night before I say my prayers.  And any other time I feel the need.  I talk to my Momma almost everyday and she is still alive and kicking!  She gets lonely in that apartment alone.  She has lots of friends in the retirement place she lives.  But they can't be with her 24/7!

Yesterday was a pajama snuggly day!  Saw both grandsons, our son and DIL all at various times.  All came to eat.  They know they can always get food at 'Gamma's'  One grandson spent the night, so there will be warm blueberry muffins for him when he gets up.

We had to have the AC on yesterday it got so hot in here!  Today's high was 62 this morning when we got up.  The temps are supposed to drop to the 50's during the day!  Then the 30's overnight.  We will have to muddle through!

I hope everyone has a fantabulous Monday!

A quick hello to all my OFF friends,
Didn't post yesterday ....  nothing to say really.  Went to early church and Bible Study, then home the rest of the day.  Got a couple calls in the afternoon.  DIL came and took their Trail Blazer so she could pick up their big doggies at the boarding place, then brought it back around 5....said she and a friend were going to the movies.....I would have enjoyed going, but she didn't ask...oh well.

Got quite a bit of cross stitching done, this is a huge picture 16 X 20, and quite complex, it will take hours and hours to complete it but I am determined.

Back to work today, hope there is something for me to do.

Have a blessed Monday,
Pat R.

P.S. have had a sore second toe on right foot, and it looked pretty bad this morning so I called the foot doc and they said come right in.   I am now less a toenail....what next??#%@.  Got to work at 10 a.m. -- another short day, my paycheck is going to be mighty slim.

Good morning everyone,

Back to work for me today too after a busy holiday weekend.  My son made it to Bakersfield from MO safely.  Gil and I drove down on Friday and stayed in Kernville overnight, had dinner with Tom and found a shuffleboard in a bar there.  Played in the snow but the roads were clear.  Got home Saturday night and Sunday was a pajama day for me, watching marathon Planet Earth episodes.

I've been a little off track with the eating program while Gil was around but anticipate being back on track this week.  Staying on program feels so much better.  Glad to catch up on the posts this morning.  I've missed you all.

Hugs, CV Linda

morning margaret and OFF family!!!

well i went to michigan and saw my mom!!! WOW!!! what a drive that turned out to be!!!! we left about 4 pm friday and the drive was going well...rick was driving and his leg started to bother him so i told him to stop at the next rest area and i would take over...ok we stopped went potty and let bandit go also...we got something to eat and then got back on the road again....hit the sandusky/toledo area and yes it started to rain again!!!! seems this area doesn't like me driving there....grrrrr but all was ok because it wasn't a downpour like other times...well we got off the turnpike and headed into michigan and FOG!!! omg the fog!!!! it was hard to see anything at all and the fog went as far as ann arbor area...we made it through there and still had fog off and on the rest of the way...at one point i had to slow way down so i could see the curve in the road....so a 4 1/2 hour trip took just over 5 hours and 15 minutes...but we arrived safe!!! had a stress headache or maybe lack of water or protein not sure or maybe a combination of all...we got something to eat and relaxed a bit and i felt better. called mom told her we made it safe and would call her when we got up in the morning. then called phyllis and she took jon to work and she stopped at the motel to see us. she brought us a care package and man was it ever stuffed with all kinds of goodies!!!! was good seeing here again!!!! i sure miss her alot!!! we used to do so many things on the spur of the moment and had so much fun!!! so after she left we hit the bed...bed was like a slab of concrete....not soft like ours here...but we slept good. called mom when we got up saturday morning and was told to be over about noon. so we got dressed and went over to her house and had our little christmas....again the fog monster was out there big time!!! got worse after we arrived at her house so that was ok. it did clear up before we left to go back to motel. had a good time with mom...my sister came over for dinner also and the sister love just isn't there anymore atleast on my part....i tolerated her and thats about it. my cousin barb called and told me she wanted to come over and see me and i told her come on over we would be there for a while yet...she has a new man in her life and he is a good man. he treats her well and said he loves her to pieces so i am really happy for her!!!! she has wanted aman for so many years and now she has one. she is living with him and she has been sick and in the hospital and he is taking care of he really well!!! so anyhow my older brother that lives with mom met rick and was pleasant towards him...fixed his plate of food and went upstairs...his usual self....then my younger brother joe came over and we had a good visit with him also. the day just wasn't long enough!!!! we were all tuckered out and had to leave. bandit and sassy got along ok and had a couple fights started over toys...sassy (moms ****er) doesn't like to share her stuff....but they did pretty good playing. so with bags of goodies and my rug scrubber we left to go back to motel and wasn't sure if we would come back sunday or not because of the wind warnings they were talking about. so back to the motel and the hot tub....ahhhhhhhhhh did that ever feel good on the weary bones!!! we slept good and heard the wind blowing hard....omg was it ever blowing outside!!!! had to take bandit outside and i couldn't open the door to go out!!!! finally got him outside and he did his thing and we came back in and i called mom...told her the wind was so strong i didn't want to drive any further in it than i had to!!! she agreed but was sad she couldn't see me again....so we packed up and got out of there...OMG the drive in that wind storm was stressful!!! had to use both hands on the steering wheel and talk about white knuckle driving!!!!! was glad to get into the turnpike and the wind was at our back instead of coming across the middle of the car. we made it home safe and sound so that was good!!! saw tons of trees down along the highway and some were huge trees!!!! so i guess you could say we had a good time even with the nasty weather. loved seeing mom again and hated to leave her behind. she wouldn't come back with us for a visit. said if it was warmer she would but not now when its so cold. so maybe this summer she will come stay with us for awhile.

christmas day was good here at home. rick got me so many nice things!!! he gave me an ohio state zippered hooded sweatshirt, ohio state tshirt, ohio state knit hat, a pretty zip fleece winnie the poo hooded jacket, some snuggly footies, perfume...3 different kinds, slippers, and a horse statue. his mom gave me some lotions and shower gel and some inscence. from my mom i got a pretty pink v neck sweater and from my older brother some gumbo soup which i can't find here...lol my sister gave me a nightie and some support hose knee high stockings for work and my younger brother gave me 20 bucks. so i guess you could say i was blessed this year with all the nice things i got!!! rick said this was his second best christmas ever...first one was last year with me....he is so good to me i am so grateful we finally got together and we are both so happy now.

mom was telling me that gary was at the family christmas at my younger brothers...his mom and sister that were so pissed at me trying to get him into a nursing home so he would get some help....well seems they didn't even have him at the house for their christmas dinner christmas eve!!!!!! they just **** me off yet....AND his mom gave my sister a pair of slippers for christmas!!! can you beat that??? why i have no idea but it really irks me that they are like that!!! oh well the one thing i am so grateful for is that i am no longer a part of that family (never thought i was a part of it before) just glad that i had the guts to leave and move on with my life and went with rick!!!! i have never been happier in my life!!! i am loved beyond my wildest dreams and i feel like i BELONG here with rick!!!

well thats about it for my christmas stories.... ;)

so reading the posts i see many have had a wonderful christmas and that makes it all worth while!!! some have had some sad times also and i am sorry. i did read all the posts that were posted and just not enough time to respond to them all so just know that i am feeling for you all whether good or bad....good to see carla posting and doing better...hope eileen is doing better now with her new knee surgery!!! the wow moments some are having i am happy for you!!!! i know the WOW's will be coming for you faster than you ever thought possible!!! just hang on its a wild ride!!! :)

OH!!!!!! i took the "BIG" clothes to moms and showed her and the rest of them how these clothes fit me now....mouths dropped to the floor!!! many ''WOWS'' were said...but ofcourse my sister said those clothes were still to big for her so she didn't want them.....i looked her straight in her eyes and said "don't bet on it!!! i bet these clothes fit you like a glove!!! and besides i am NOT giving you these clothes because they are a reminder to me of how i was and i am NEVER going back to being like that ever again!!!" she just grunted....and so she sat there and ate 3 huge plates of food....so sad....she wanted to have WLS and she can't give up here foods....she would fail at it anyhow if she did have it done....she loves to eat and eat and doesn't understand why she regurges all the time...sighs.....and she is/was a nurse....i give up on her....

so ok now that i have posted a novel here i will shut up and let you read other posts here lol....have to work today and wednesday have tuesday and thursday off work friday and sat. have to get some cleaning done before work today. guess we will take tree down thursday afternoon. might as well...its been up since before thanksgiving....need the space to move furniture around so i can scrub the carpet...ok i am out of here...hope you all have a great day!!!!!

love and hugs and prayers to those that need them!!!

EDIT FOR ADD ON HERE...

Hey Judy,

It was good to see you too !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I do miss our spur of the moment adventures too. They were always fun, theraputic and beneficial to us. We always seemed to solve a lot of world crisis when we were out and about. Too bad the people in powerful postions were not in on our conversations ( ya know we had all of the answers and they we were always right.....................lol).

Good Morning Margaret and all!
Well, I'm back to work and working hard you can tell!  LOL!
Not much to say, after my huge shopping day Saturday I didn't do too much yesterday, did get the turkey cooked and will divide it up tonight.  I used some of the juice that didn't spill down the front of the stove to the dogs eternal delight, and started some turkey soup.  I'll add carrots and other veggies tonight and the meat too.  Another short week this one, work today and tomorrow then off Wed and Thurs, but working parts of both Friday and Saturday doing some training with my good friend for new staff at our hospital.
Yesterday I did work on my craft room trying to organize the Planned Pethood stuff and the yarn stuff, basket stuff, gourd stuff and bead stuff.  What a chore!  No where near done, but coming along somewhat.  Have more organizing to do that's for sure!
Today is the first day I left a gate up at the door to the computer room.  I am sure the kitties can jump it now, they haven't left the room yet, will be interesting to see if they do.  Still not much progress with them, will be keeping them till March at least and find a barn home for them if they don't start to socialize a bit more.
Again, boring life!  take care and have a great day!

Good Morning OFF family!

Just reporting in to let you know that I am still alive. Washington Winter Storm Hannah and Clara blew through here and spent a week! Wow, we had a wonderful time but man oh man are we worn out! They crawl, they climb, they take turns sleeping during the day. That way one of them is always rested and we're always worn out! I posted a few new pictures on my profile. Since we saw them 3 weeks ago they have learned to sit up and STAY up, crawl anywhere, pull up to tables, couches, etc, and are working on climbing stairs. They can Pattycake and will mimic things that we do.

For being just barely 4 lbs at birth nine months ago they are now 17 lbs each and so active. Their doctor says he can't believe how strong they are and that they are just about "caught" up. Their due date was May 3 and they were born March 16. We try to remember that when we compare them to other children. But certainly nothing wrong with hearing, vision, development that we can see.

I haven't even started my annual Holiday Letter. I bought cards that will do for a "new year's greeting." I'll try to get to that this week. I like doing the letter as it gives me a condensed version of our family's year. And what a year it was: We sold a house, built a house, lived in an apartment for the summer, we had puppies in early March, twin grand daughters a week later. Back and forth every few weeks to spend time with daughter and family. Went to Alaska end of May with college roommate. Moved into new home mid October. Went to Mexico on a cruise with a couple of friends in late October. Came home to more unpacking, Christmas decorating and getting ready for a family Christmas.

Everyone arrived in the middle of a snow storm which continued, and continued.  We usually get 6-8 inches (rain and snow combined) total per year.  About every 5 years or so we get a really good winter and this one is starting out that way. We had about 10 inches on the ground for a week. It is now blowing a warm Chinook wind and the roads are clear. Most of the snow is gone. A good test of all the new house systems!

Babies are gone. Miss them already, but sure glad that I feel good about their family unit. I want to be Mimi Karen not Mommy Karen! Been there, done that, too old to do it again! I know I would if I had to but sure hope I don't have to!

I always look forward to the clean slate of a new year. I love when February arrives. Longer days, things starting to grow. This spring will bring planting flowers, trees, bushes. Basic lawn is in, but I'll be able to garden again. We love to grow our own tomatoes, cucumbers, and peppers. I've always wanted to try asparagus. Think I'll get some starts this year. I already have one seed and flower catalog to spend time dreaming with.

But first that Holiday Letter needs to be done.  Just took my little 13 inch tv and put it on my computer desk. I like it there. It belonged to my dad. I can listen to tv and play here on OFF.

I still need to get my genealogy file cabinet in place here by the computer so I can get back to that. Why Mike took it downstairs I can't fathom. He just kind of gave me a blank look when I mentioned that in order to USE it I need it by the computer. DUH!!!

Ok, I take that back. He's a good guy. He humors me most of the time, but sometimes I wonder. . . .

Thinking of all of you getting ready for surgery and those who are recovering from all kinds of surgery. Sending healing vibes your way. I'm constantly reminded of what a ride this life is. Just when we think we have it figured out we come to another curve. I used to just sit in bewilderment afraid to go around that corner. Now most of the time I venture forth, still a bit of a nervous ninny in new situations, but most of the time able to overcome the fear and move on.

I have gained weight. I've become complacent and old habits have re entered my life. Too much rich food, too little exercise. The solution is clear. Do I have the fortitude to do what it takes? Yes I do! And I will. You all take care and have a good day.

Karen C
