Surgery further postponed :(
I went to see the cardiologist who put my heart stent in on December 2 follwing finding what has now been called a 95% blockage in my left anterior descending artery, and he said that I may need to postpone my RNY for 12 months instead of the original 6.
This is so disappointing to me. My family does not understand this though as they are so focused on me missing the massive heart attack that I was heading for. And I am grateful to still be alive and well, but I am still in this body, and still focusing on getting the surgery as I make the necessary lifestyle changes. a year! a year to wait. sigh.
I still have the prediabetes, high blood pressure and GERD. I still have to lose the weight! I need a kick in the *ss to shake me out of this funk I'm in. Do I have any volunteers with a big foot out there ?

That is soooo tough. I am sorry for you....and then I think of so many of us that have had the surgery and lost the weight and are now abusing that miracle by abusing our bodies and gaining weight. Trust me it is a long road and the sooner you can learn on your own to eat less food and lose some weight on your own......you won't be completely successful.
I would advise you to use this time for your PRE-education....learn to eat heart healthy, try 10 minutes a day of exercise until you can do more....I don't have diabetes anymore..but that was just a surgical procedure.....what I don't have is the control you need to go through this whole thing and so many of us don't. We think that losing the weight is what it is all about.....it is NOT...it is learning to control your life.
I have not been around the forum lately except just to check in periodically, but I really really need to be. Please stay here everyday, get control and then help us.
Hugs, Marti

I'm trying not to let it get me down and right now I'm so confused about what to eat and what not to eat that I'm just drinking SlimFast. The heart healthy diet is good, but messes with my blood sugars. The diabetes diet is good, but can mess with my heart. Since i need the heart to do everything, I'm working the heart healthy diet into the mix.
Exericse right now is the hardest for me. I tire so easily and I realize it's a stamina issue. I start cardiac rehab in 2 weeks and I'm so looking forward to working up a sweat, but doing so in an environment that if something were to happen to my heart, I'd be in a good place to be taken care of.
As I look back over the past 3 months I am realizing that I was slowing down so much as I struggled to move thru the pain which was actually my poor heart begging for oxygen. Now that I have that issue taken care of , getting back to exercising will help me a lot.
I will heed your advice and work towards learning all I can about controlling my life. I"m going to make so me major changes too, one at a time, to live the life I truly want and not the life I am living now. Tho my life is good, it can be so much better, and being so close to dying has made me realize with crystal clarity that it can be gone in less than a heartbeat.
Thanks for the post and I will do my best to get here everyday.
warm regards, Linda

The heart diet messes with your blood sugars. The diabetes diet messes with your heart. Talk about being caught between the devil and the deep blue sea. Best wishes for finding the right balance needed for your health.

Hi Linda,
I am not going to kick you but am here for you should you need to vent. It took me one year, to the day, for my surgery. During that one year and going through the "hoops", I ate the post-surgery way. That being protein shakes, protein first, virtually no carbs.... I felt energized, lost almost 45 pounds, and was psychologically ready for post-surgery. Believe me, it sure helped me tremendously.
I hope you can learn to do this as well. Doing what you can with what you can control will help you feel better about the situation. Just because you can eat it, doesn't mean you should eat it!
Practice now will pay off. Take care of yourself because you are the only "you" you have!

Hi Kathi
What a great idea...live the post surgery way.! I didn't think of that, but that sounds perfect, tho I will have to add the carbs due to the prediabetes.
I just have to get my mind around waiting so long. I am going to talk to the cardiologist about the surgery and as if perhaps it can't be done sooner. He said that in some instances, depending on the surgery, he would allow it at 6 months. Even that is a letdown because i expected to have surgery in January.
But I am here, I am alive and feeling better every day. So I'll do my best not to vent too much :)
Thanks for the idea!

I got a size 14 here. And I know Mark has some new shoes for his feet. But I don't think either one of us is likely to kick your butt. Instead, I will say a prayer for you.
We are here for you. I agree with the post about your education process. This will make your study even more thorough.
Hang in there.
