Favorite Christmas Memory?

Sitting here thinking it's one wee****il Christmas.  That got me to thinking about years past and some of my favorite memories.  Hard to pick just one - as a child or as a mom......  I pick as a mom!  Coming home on Christmas Eve when our 4-year old son saw a red light in the sky.  Hubby convinced him it was Rudolph.  "Hurry Daddy!  Hurry because we have to be in bed asleep or Santa won't come to our house."  We got home, kids raced to bed faster than I've ever seen any kid move.  We've laughed and laughed over the years about that.

Care to share one of your favorite Christmas memories?

Hugs,

Kathi

Hi Kathi,
Great thread.  Mine is from my childhood.  When I was 13 I wanted a guitar in the worst way.  My parents had seven kids so I thought - fat chance.  When Christmas morning came I was given a small wrapped gift.  In it was a guitar pick and a note saying sorry this was all Santa could afford.  My Dad told me to turn the note over.  It said, Oh wait! go look in your closet.  In my closet was the guitar I longed for.  My Mom had sewed a white naugahyde case for it and they had gotten me a guitar lesson book and guitar strap.  It was the best Christmas ever.

How fun, Bev!

My mom and dad always played little tricks on my sister with her Christmas presents.  Nice memory to have.  Hope you still play the guitar, too!

Bev,
I remember the year I wanted a guitar. My parents pulled a trick on me too. When I went downstairs I saw a guitar box, I was so excited. We usually waited for our parents before we opened our presents but I just had to open it. Well, the joke was on me, inside the box was a little plastic ukulele !  I went upstairs and said to my Mom and Dad, "that's not funny". Mom, Dad, sister and brother all had a good laugh. They did end up giving me the real guitar later. My brother got a movie camera that year, the old fashioned one with no sound. I had to re-enact the opening of the box with the ukulele in it. We watched that over and over and laughed every time.

Another year I got white Go-Go boots and a round zippered tote bag with a picture of the Beatles on it.

I think the most memorable Christmas I had was when I was 3 years old. I got a musical stuffed dog. I named him Rusty and little did I know that later in life my brother in law would have the nick name of Rusty. I still have him and tho he is no longer musical (he had a little handle to turn to make music) he is still one of my favorite things in my life. I remember that day so vividly and when I opened that present. I am sometimes amazed that I remember it. Rusty had dried many tears and has heard many deep dark secrets. I told Bill over and over again that when I die Rusty goes with me.

It's not what you gather, but what you scatter
that tells what kind of life you have lived.

Oh Brenda,

What a nice story.  Rusty was your stuffed dog.  Mine was a stuffed lion named Pooky.  I had him until we downsized to the condo a few years ago.  He had a hole in his paw that my mother had placed a bandaid on many years ago.  I haven't thought about him in a while.  It's nice you still have yours and the brother-in-law, too!

 Morning Kathi Girl,
Merry Christmas from the Great Snowy High Desert.
Would you believe we are snowed in .  2 Ft. of snow fell on our
Lil' patch of the world.   We do have Bright blue sky's this morning.
You want to talk about beautiful !
We've been thinking about how to dig out, never had to do this in our 22 years up here.
We do have a 4 wheel drive , so I think we will try running the Jeep back and forth to the gate's, then dig out the gate's.
We played out in the fluffy stuff yesterday, so much fun.  You had to see a 5ft.3in. Granny walking, should I say trying to walk , through 2 ft. of powdery snow. LOL. I was bundled up till unrecognizable. The pup's helped. As the honey man cleared a path, the 4 legged kid's got behind and nosed me forward.
I think today will be more work then play.  We need to bring up wood , (mow) the snow down so we can get to our friends down the road.  They are both ( senior) and not able to shovel .I know we are senior as well. But we are Jr. Senior. They are both in their 70's.

The Christmas Story:

This could be a sad story, but I'll try and show the goodness you find in people.

Way back when I was a child:
Christmas was coming. Mother didn't have any money. The Father was in Jail. I was kind of small so I don't remember all the detail's.
On Christmas eve, we heard a sound at our front door.  Mother opened the door to find a lot of people standing on the porch.
The people started coming into our home. With them , they brought a Tree, decorations for the Tree. Presents to put under the Tree.  Boxes and boxes of food.
The help given to a small family is remembered . The Joy brought to a tiny house. How do you give thanks.
Well, I guess that all means it take's just a little kindness to a child to help that child give kindness to the next child, and on the trail of Joy goes.
Merry Christmas, Joy coming from That,   Peg in Red

Thought about you standing in your red jacket with snow abounding, my dear Peg.......  Enjoy it as much as you can.   I love the kind-hearted warmth that comes from your Christmas story.  Thank you so much for sharing that with me.  It brings to mind the true meaning of the joy of the holiday season.  People are amazing aren't they?  So willing to give - especially to children.  A special place in heaven, indeed, for the generous people who care.  Thanks so much for sharing this story with me.

Hugs my friend,

Kathi

Too many to note, but one of my favorites:  GO GO boots like the kind the caged dancing girls wore on Hullabaloo - remember that show?  I wore those white boots with the tassels for years!!!  Wish I still had them!

Go Go boots, huh?  I remember them well.  LOVED Hullabaloo and watched it every week!  I never had the boots because I never had the legs to fit in them.  I'll bet you looked m-a-r-v-e-l-o-u-s strutting your stuff in yours though!  Thanks for the smile and walk through the 60s.
