Hi Juanita
I am scheguled for RNY In Michigan Jan.23/2009. I too am a bit worried about my age, but I have been tested for everything imaginable and all seems to be o.k. I think that is the answer, if you get good tests and information, it must be O.K.
I had heart, lungs, colonostopy, endascope, sleep apena, color dopplor of the circulation in my legs, I had an angiogram, etc etc. Now to get Christmas over with and then I go for my testing with the surgeon, start the diet, then have the surgery, It has been a long journey.
Merry Christmas Lola

Thanks Lola , may I ask what is your age ? and how dose your family feel about you having this surgery ? My husband  said I shouldn't have it  One of my daughter-in-laws doesn't want me to have the surgery  she said she has seen alot  of people who had LOTS of trouble with the RNY  She works at the Lexington Hospital here in West Columbia . and I know she is  worried that things may go wrong  for me . I have spent months searching the web and reading people blogs and I even talked to a lady yesterday [ Thursday 12-18-08 ] and she had this surgery 10 years ago and  she said it was the best thing she had ever done and told me if I felt  it is right for me  and I have done  my research  then I should decide  what was best for ME!!!
please keep in touch and let us know how your surgery goes.my email address is [email protected]
I will be praying for you and I know you will do FINE
This is a saying I've said for many years.

I had both medicare and medicaid and they both approved the surgery due to co-morbidities. I do not think your age has a lot to do with it I was 59 and I am now 60. I believe that I read medicare did have an upper age limit of 70 and removed it not sure. Your surgeons office will know

Thanks Cindy, everyone on this web site is just wongerful, I have read soooo many of tne blogs and I feel I have a family  on OH I can really talk to and who understands what I am thinking .My husband REALLY DON'T want me to have this surgery and I can't seem to make him understand  I'm not trying to hurt my body I'm trying to help it. I weigh 250 lb. and I am 5'2.He don't even want to talk about it ,he told me the other day  that if he had to sign for to have the RNY then I would NEVER get it done.my husband is a wonderful person and this July 2009 we will be married for 50 years.
