I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.

as the recipient? I don't care unless I recognize the gift as originating with me!
as the giver? I've done it - I keep a supply of gifts on hand to give in case someone surprises me with a gift and I feel I should reciprocate

3-do you tip service people-ie newspaper/hairdresser (yay carla and susan!!) /etc ? I usually "tip" by giving small handmade items (like Christmas ornaments) or home-baked goodies

As the giver, I make sure that the gift is appropriate for the person that I am giving it to. I just don't give a gift just to give a gift. I make sure the gift is something that person either wanted or needs. Unlike my SIL that shops on Christmas Eve.
Boy did I write a lot

2. Pre printed Christmas card labels. Don't like them. How many cards do you send out and how busy can you be to just slap a sticky address on a card. Take the time to address it by hand. It shows the recipient that you took the time. I also get a little irritated when someone does the pre-printed labels for wedding invitations. You plan so far in advance, you should have time to address the envelopes. Even it you do a few every night.
3. I don't go to my hairdresser often enough to give a special tip for the holidays. I give her a good tip whenever I do get my hair cut.
As far as the paper carrier. I have never even seen him! There are some jobs that I don't think "need" a tip just for the holidays. It is their job and they do get paid. I do give my mail carrier something since he always picks up my postage paid Ebay items that I am mailing out.
Its nice to give a special gift or tip if you have a personal relationship with them.
4. I really don't like giving gift cards unless the recipient has specifically asked for one. I have a friend that asked for Home Depot cards to save up for some home improvements she wanted to do. I've gotten gift cards for places that couldn't shop in (small size clothes). To me unless you ask for them it looks like the giver doesn't take the time to put though into a gift. Especially if its a family member. Its an easy way out.
Gift cards are good for teachers and someone out of town though. Even then I usually give a small gift with the card.
5. Yes we put up a tree. I aim for a week or two after Thanksgiving. I would like to take it down on New Years day but that never happens. I usually wait until the kids are back in school and take my time putting the ornaments away carefully.
6. We do have some traditions. I always lay the ornaments out and separate which ones belong to each child. They always put their own on the tree. I also get each one at least one new ornament every year that reflects something they like or whats going on in their life. When my son was little and liked firetrucks I made a sun-catcher that was a firetruck. The year my daughter was adopted from Russia my Mom bought her the Russian Barbie ornament from Hallmark. This year my son chose another baseball ornament and my daughter chose a really cute sheep. She's into sheep for some reason this year.
6. My DH,DS and DD goes to MIL every year to make pizzells. Even before we had children my husband helped him Mom make these cookies every year. Christmas dinner isn't complete without my my baked pineapple casserole. We always have my MIL's meatballs and she also bakes a ton of cookies.

as the recipient? I don't mind.
as the giver? I don't
2-how do you feel about Christmas cards with pre-printed address labels? It's ok. I send so many that is a great idea.
3-do you tip service people-ie newspaper/hairdresser (yay carla and susan!!) /etc ? Yes
4-aside from the scare of stores going out of biz-how do you feel about giving gift cards? I give them to some of my family each year because they are very hard to buy for.
5-if you put up a tree
when do you put it up and how long does it stay up? Weekend after Thanksgiving.
do you have traditions about putting it up? Yes...play Christmas music and I use to make cocoa...but now it is water or coffee.
6-brenda did our mouthwatering monday around holiday breads--do you have other traditional holiday foods?
Just the goodies I bake and cook to give away.
7-i know that some of our OFF family are of Jewish faith, and i do not wish to leave you out here- do you have certain holiday time traditions that you enjoy? are faithful to?
8-to those same folks in question #7--are you offended by receiving traditional Christmas cards?
1-how do you feel about re-gifting??
as the recipient? I dont mind if it's something that is suitable for me..there's way too much WASTE in this world already...what may not be something that YOU want, might be just what another person is delighted with!
as the giver? Im very careful to make sure the original giver is not offended in any way and is shown gratitude for their kindness and generosity.
eg: I won a two hundred dollar gift basket of Fruits & Passions..Im giving that to my daughter-in-law who will LOVE it!
2-how do you feel about Christmas cards with pre-printed address labels? makes it easier for the mailman to read..I see no problem with that at all.
3-do you tip service people-ie newspaper/hairdresser (yay carla and susan!!) /etc ? YES!
4-aside from the scare of stores going out of biz-how do you feel about giving gift cards? for some people, like my sons, these are wonderful..they can redeem them when they are ready.
5-if you put up a tree
when do you put it up and how long does it stay up? It goes up-usually too late..I take it down after New years day
do you have traditions about putting it up? yes.. always get stuck with it
6-brenda did our mouthwatering monday around holiday breads--do you have other traditional holiday foods? I always have a nice brunch-type of meal on Christmas day so that people, coming and going, can eat at any time...we "pick" all day..quick breads, french toast casserole, cheeses, crackers, nuts, cheese balls, hot cheese & crab dips, turkey kolbassa, croisants, fruits, shrimp rings...
7-i know that some of our OFF family are of Jewish faith, and i do not wish to leave you out here- do you have certain holiday time traditions that you enjoy? are faithful to? - NA
8-to those same folks in question #7--are you offended by receiving traditional Christmas cards? absolutely not! Christmas is about CHRIST not Santa and snowmen..I make sure that I send out appropriate cards that reflect the true meaning of Christmas.
Having said that, I also take care to send out appropriate holiday cards for those of the Jewish faith in my circle.
I also have some black friends who celebrate a combination of Christmas and Kwanza so I write an appropriate greeting to them, being sensitive to their family traditions as well.
After all, isnt Christmas a Mind Set of joy and peace and love? Why would I be offended?
What OFFENDS me is that WE have to stop displaying our nativity scenes and have to say Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas because it "offends" some people from other countries who come here!
*gets off my soap box*
NancyB
gifting?? I don't mind at all.
as the recipient? That is fine
as the giver? I don't

nday around holiday breads--do you have other traditional holiday foods? Not really....we have different food every year.
faith, and i do not wish to leave you out here- do you have certain holiday time traditions that you enjoy? are faithful to?
8-to those same folks in question #7--are you offended by receiving traditional Christmas cards?
i may have other questions but these things have been on my mind lately......so many things that we have felt for years and years tend to be stuck in our mindset and i am wondering if we (i??) need to be more lenient about things or ....well- hope you will answer!!!!

4-aside from the scare of stores going out of biz-how do you feel about giving gift cards? its ok but not personal enough like they didn't take the time to look for something special for me...
5-if you put up a tree
when do you put it up and how long does it stay up? this is the first time in years that i put a tree up so its just after thanksgiving i did it before and this year because we were both off the sunday before thanksgiving we put the tree up then

7-i know that some of our OFF family are of Jewish faith, and i do not wish to leave you out here- do you have certain holiday time traditions that you enjoy? are faithful to?
8-to those same folks in question #7--are you offended by receiving traditional Christmas cards?
as the recipient? I don't mind if it's something that was given to me because the person knew I would love it or I could really use it.
as the giver? I have done it when it's something that I know the other person has loved or admired and then they know it's a re-gift but we're both happy because they wanted it and I feel good about giving to them.
2-how do you feel about Christmas cards with pre-printed address labels? I'm guilty. I do it.
3-do you tip service people-ie newspaper/hairdresser (yay carla and susan!!) /etc ? Absolutely!
4-aside from the scare of stores going out of biz-how do you feel about giving gift cards? I think it's okay, especially with teens or people difficult to buy for. I'd rather they go get something they want rather than have to return something I gave them they didn't want.
5-if you put up a tree when do you put it up and how long does it stay up? Usually the week after Thanksgiving and it stays up until the week after New Years.
do you have traditions about putting it up? Not really... but we always listen to Christmas music while we decorage.
as the recipient? Again, New, Never used, (I got a chipped serving platter one year!)
as the giver? I have only done it a couple of times with items that I could not use, didn't need and were new and never used, when I knew the other person would enjoy using.
2-how do you feel about Christmas cards with pre-printed address labels? I try to handwrite all the personal ones, but the business ones are preprinted on the envelopes not labels!
3-do you tip service people-ie newspaper/hairdresser (yay carla and susan!!) /etc ? Yes, If I feel that have done a good job all year.
4-aside from the scare of stores going out of biz-how do you feel about giving gift cards? Only for very hard to buy for people and those that I know would rather buy something for themselfs. I like to have a couple of extras on hand for last minute/unexpected gifts.
5-if you put up a tree when do you put it up and how long does it stay up? Traditionally our tree goes up the Sunday afternoon after Thanksgiving and comes down before the New Year. (My Mom always said that it was bad luck to bring in the New Year with the tree up, I think she was just ready to clean up.
do you have traditions about putting it up? We have a tree decorating party with family.
6-brenda did our mouthwatering monday around holiday breads--do you have other traditional holiday foods? We did are looking for healthy alternatives now! LOL
7-i know that some of our OFF family are of Jewish faith, and i do not wish to leave you out here- do you have certain holiday time traditions that you enjoy? are faithful to?
8-to those same folks in question #7--are you offended by receiving traditional Christmas cards?
i may have other questions but these things have been on my mind lately......so many things that we have felt for years and years tend to be stuck in our mindset and i am wondering if we (i??) need to be more lenient about things or ....well- hope you will answer!!!!
as the recipient? It doesn't bother me if it is something that I like.
as the giver? I have never done this but I would have to remember who gave me the gift so I don't give it back to them.
2-how do you feel about Christmas cards with pre-printed address labels? I usually always write them out. I do receive them with the pre-printed labels and it doesn't bother me. It is nice that they thought enough of me to send me a card.
3-do you tip service people-ie newspaper/hairdresser (yay carla and susan!!) /etc ? I don't go get my hair cut enough to warrant that. If I did I would for sure do it. I never see the newspaper carrier and besides he just opens the door and throws in the hall. I have to go walking for it. I don't consider that good service so there is nothing in his stocking this year.
4-aside from the scare of stores going out of biz-how do you feel about giving gift cards? I make sure that I buy something for the ones that I have on my list. My great niece has asked for a gift card because she wants to go shopping on her own. I just make sure how they work. Some places are not good to buy one from. Like Hallmark isn't good. I know someone who had 2 certificates from them and she lost them since there was a period of time that she had to use them. That isn't right. The time wasn't very long either. It was just a matter of a few months.
5-if you put up a tree
when do you put it up and how long does it stay up? We put up our tree around the second week of December. I keep it up through Ephiphany which is January 6th. So it is usually taken down on the 7th.
do you have traditions about putting it up? We have Christmas ornaments for our 3 children and Bill and I put them up together. We pick just the right spots for them and we place them together.
6-brenda did our mouthwatering monday around holiday breads--do you have other traditional holiday foods? I am always picked to make mom's dressing. The last few years I can't get it right anymore so that is done now. I am going to pass that tradition on to my niece. I am asked all the time to make the green bean casserole since it is the one they all love. This year my great niece has asked me to make the corn casserole too. So that is yet another tradition that is starting. We had the traditions when I was growing up of the brown bread (I can't find the recipe) and her fudge and we always had Brach's chocolate stars. We also always had Life Saver Storybooks in our stockings along with the tangerine in the toe of the sock. Oh precious memories how they linger.
7-i know that some of our OFF family are of Jewish faith, and i do not wish to leave you out here- do you have certain holiday time traditions that you enjoy? are faithful to?
