OT sortof: Rant about a co-worker & food

The receptionist here who sits fairly close to me lost like 30 pounds on Weigh****chers a couple years ago.  I was on WW shortly thereafter and that was my last attempt at it before deciding to go for surgery.  Anyway, ever since she lost the weight, she has to report to half the people in the office what she has eaten during the day.  There's a Mrs. Beasley basket at the front desk full of cookies, etc. and she has had to tell at least 5 people today what she ate out of it... half a cookie, yada yada and patting herself on the back for not eating more and then she has to work the fact that she was on the treadmill this morning into the same conversation and it's just plain annoying!  Shut up already. I have to hear it OVER AND OVER AND OVER.  I go to the gym 6 days a week, 5 of them at 5 a.m. and I don't eat that crap she's eating anymore and I'm not broadcasting it to everyone who stands around long enough to listen.  Not even me... there are a bunch of people in the office who are health conscious, take care of their weight, eat somewhat healthy and you don't hear any of them "reporting" if they ate a Hershey's Kiss or worked out that morning or whatever.

It's gotten to the point now people ask her what she's eaten.  it's so ridiculous! I don't know if she just starved for attention or what her issue is.

Ugh!  I have to bite my tongue and smile.  I'd love to tell her in a nice way to shut up because nobody cares.

I'm sorry if I sound mean... but I have to listen to this magpie 8 hours a day, 5 days a week.

I suppose if you grilled her and made ba- b -que,that would be too much protein??? LOL
She is getting her re-inforcement in the wrong venue. Try to ignore her, soon you will have astounding results, when asked you can say,I like keeping my ways quiet, and am doing my best one day a time. It may be a quiet way,but all of reporting will pale next to your accomplishments.

Hi Laura, sounds like she wants a partner to lose wt with her. Linda is right, if you ignore her she will stop. You will outshine her in your own quiet way. She seeks attention and she might be afraid that you will reach your goal before she does. I have a co-worker that constantly talks about the alternative medicine she "practices". If you mention flu shots, she will announce to everyone that she takes hers "homeopathically". "Her" vitamins are the best (she sells them on the side) but then again she drinks coke everyday and brings chips and large meals with her to work. She's probably 50-60#overwt but she claims she is at her healthiest ever. I just ignore her as does most others. She stops when she has no audience.
Good luck!

maybe you could all chip in and get her a nice journal so she could "write" all she ate for the day instead of broadcasting it to whomever will listen...maybe its her way of staying on "program"??? i know people like that can be a pain...you might invest in some earplugs?? hang in there....

LOL!!!!   That is SO funny because I did give her a very nice journal for her birthday because I KNOW how she likes to write a lot of stuff down.  Maybe she should write some of her feelings and more positive reinforcment for herself.

You know with all the psychological stuff I had to go through before being able to have my surgery I learned a lot about myself and I feel like such a stronger person emotionally... lots of people could use that kind of therapy even if they don't have weight issues.

oooooook...so maybe now you could mention in a nice way that it would be better for her to write down these things she is ALWAYS talking outloud to anyone that will listen in that journal....this was she can go back and read what she is saying over and over and over again to all of you...maybe she will see she is driving you all nuts...lol good luck!!!

hugs

More than anything, she is to be pitied....  she obviously needs
re-enforcement for her self acceptance.  This may have been one of a few if any events that she as succeeded at.  Not that I'm trying to push off your frustration because I know how real that is.     I have someone in my life that seems to need to tell details of whatever is going on in her life...... annoyed... oh yes.  I hate to call and sometimes deliberately miss the phone and check to see who called before answering.  A short phone call can be 15-20 minutes easily.

Hang tough gal, this too shall pass.    Millie

My magpie at works talks about everything and loud enough for everybody to hear.  She just recently lost weight and was telling how her Dr put her on appetite suppressants, just so she could fit into a sexy dress. And how you just have to be careful of what you eat and make the right food choices.  No wonder she has all the mood swings with all the medicine she is on (hypochondriac) then adds the appetite suppressants to go along with her medicine cabinet.
You don't sound mean, you sound frustrated.
I look forward to when my magpie gets sick and doesn't show up for work.  But we all know she is not sick, maybe in her head.  LOL
