Binder, drains and me...home at last!

Aloha my OFF family and I cannot tell you how happy I am to be sitting at my own computer at last!

They kept me in the hospital for an extra day because one of my drains was leaking and I didn't want to leak all over my giant muu muu on the trip home on the plane!! Ha!

My surgery went so well.......and I'm cinched up like a old fashioned grandma's waistline so I don't know what I actually look like under there yet but it feels flat! My trip back from Honolulu was smooth.....wheelchairs from hospital to taxi, taxi to plane, plane to friend's car. I actually have very little pain.......and can easily do chairs, toilet, bed and even bend down to pick up kitty toys, etc. My friend who is a plastics nurse came down and redressed where one of the drains came out at the hospital....I only have one in now. She's going to come this morning and unwrap me, help me shower, and then wrap me back up and dress open places. I think after she shows me once, I can probably do it myself...but we'll see. She's a retired PS nurse, and I think she actually enjoys doing this for me so don't want to take away her thunder if she really wants to do it.

I slept last night from 7:00 til 2:30, then took a pain pill, and slept again til 6:00. It was SO NICE to be home from the hospital. I had a roommate (yet again) was was a non-stop talker and nearly drove me nuts with her banter. 2nd roommate was having much pain, and was a very loud complainer, so I got little or no rest at the hospital.

Thank you all for your TLC.....I thought about you often at the hospital and was so thankful that you are here, and I couldn't wait to get home and tell you that I lived through it! In a couple weeks I might be able to show you a flat belly!!

Now, I'm gonna get myself ready for my friend to come and help me shower. Sending you all big but gentle hugs......thank you for caring!! I am so grateful!

Karen, our Maui love, I knew you'd be fine.  Was not so bad, huh?  And it's wonderful to have a friend to help..... WONDERFUL.....

Grab a cuppa something and head for the lanai as soon as you get that wonderful shower.

Glad you are home safe and sound.

Aloha darlin' o mine!! Thanks for the support and coming from you it means a lot because you have been through this and so much more!!

My friend just helped me shower (put on her swimsuit and came right into the shower with me!! That's couragous!) , put the binder back on and dressec the pukas from the drains. Now I'm all fresh as a daisy and ready for some rest, maybe a pain pill, and some good food later. I weighed myself earlier and I weighed 155 which means nothing at this point I guess because of stuff they pumped into me...but I weighed 162 when I had surgery. It will be interesting to see where my weight stabilizes. Is your scale now showing the 16 lbs. you had removed??

Hope you are feeling like a million bucks!! Maybe not quite yet....but you will I'm sure very soon! I just noticed when I finally had the nerve to look into the mirror without the binder that the doc did some fine tuning on what our Jeannie used to call my "cooter." LOL No longer just hangs there...kinda perky........WTMI for some people....but I know you'll get a chuckle!!

HUGS coming your way..........can't express how glad I am you are/were there!

Karen,

Actually, I'm feeling great.  I do wear out a little faster.  I've some dead spots that are inconveniencing me a little.  I went into surgery at 160.  They took off 16 lbs. I was 152 today. We are right there together. Did they tell you how much they lopped off?  Yep, they did some fine tuning on me, too. All of my scabs haven't fallen off yet but getting close.  Will scrub a little harder if I need to...:)

Don't forget to wear some 'padding' over your incisions if you need to. They were a saving grace for me.  Made clothes a lot more comfortable and nothing rubbed against my incisions.

Glad you are home. Wish I were there to sit on that lanai and just lazy around with you.

Oh, my dear......she is FEMALE!! No way would I let a man see me this way....I look like something out of STAR WARS!! LOL

And, thanks for the tip about kotex pads at the top of the binder....saving me mucho discomfort where the "girls" are laying.

I never liked Kotex Maxi's before but I sure did like them after surgery...and if you put them over your incisions, you can sure tell if you have any leakage.

I've not had one raw spot since surgery.... I had a place where the dr put a line and said it was red and inflamed.  Once I covered the area with a pad and it didn't rub on anything, it just cleared right up.

You're gonna love it.

Janet....did you leave the original tape on the incision for a long time? My doc said to just shower with it on and le****er run over it. My nurse friend throught I should have replaced it this morning when I took my shower. I went with my doc's suggestions....but wondered what you had done. Seems like the tape is doing it's job and I don't want to disturb it. I WILL put pads over it when I start wearing pants again.

The drain isn't as bad as I thought.......now draining too much anymore....so maybe next week I can get that out.

Thanks again for your on the spot info.........I LISTEN TO YOU!

KAREN,

I didn't have tape.  I had waterproof glue.  I was told I could shower.  I showered, then just patted dry.  If the tape is doing its job then I'd probably leave it alone unless I had indications of redness and/or infection.  I wore some big old cotton panties with the pads inside, then wrapped my binder over the panties.... the cotton felt good on my body and the pads gave me good padding... realizing, of course, I had incisions all the way around my body.   I still have scab and glue... but it's coming off piece at a time.... Life will be soooo much better when you get the drains out.  My last drains came out at 3 weeks.  I had two in each leg.  I drained quite a bit.

Let me be perfectly clear...:)  I'm not a doctor.... general information only.... this is MY disclaimer....:)
