Waiting...waiting...waiting
I'm looking for advice about the waiting period. I started the evaluation process at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota in August. I've been working hard to get prepared for an RNY sometime soon. I have seen the nutrition specialist twice, the dietitian twice, and now have an appointment to see them again...and the surgeon. After that, they'll send the insurance company what they need. I've done the psychology hours that they recommended and I've been diligently changing my 50+ years of bad eating and exercise habits. It feels like I'm in limbo most days. I probably know that there isn't an answer to this problem because the only thing to do is wait and try to use what I've learned. I haven't joined any support groups but I know one person at work who had an RNY about four years ago. She's been very supportive. My husband had a VBG about ten years ago and he's been great as well. So...no answers, I know. Maybe I'm just looking for words of encouragement. It seems like a long haul...
Hard to say ... I waited nearly a year because my bariatric center's insurance folks lost my insurance card (which is funny because they were billing my insurance company but couldn't send it through for preapproval). So, like you, I was in limbo for a long time. Hang in there, you will have your day. It wouldn't hurt to join a support group; I know lots of people who are preop who join a support group at their bariatric center.
Hi Tas...It seems like forever but then all of a sudden THE DAY IS HERE....we've all gone through different waiting periods as Insurance companies and also bariatric centers are different. I started in August (seminar to meet the Surgeon, and his staff) then had first visit with them in October and November 19th I had my Lap RNY. I went through Medicare/BCBS and it really did go fast and smooth.
I am doing great and will have my first Post-Op visit with Surgeon next week Dec 11th in Bismarck. As of this morning's weigh in on my scales, I have lost 31 pounds since October 22nd and I am very very happy about that. 77 pounds more to lose before goal. Hang in there and your day will come. Good Luck to you and will be anxious to hear how you are doing.

Hi,
I got a letter this week from my surgeons office telling me they had sent mine in and are waiting for approval!
I started the process in June, with my pcp, then to the seminar, first surgeons visit, then to the pulmonary doc, the cardiac stuff with stress test, the psychologist, and my monthly weigh in. Last month he asked me how many more times we had to do this!
I have gone to the support group meetings. They are good. One of the surgeons talks and answers questions, then its different speakers. Tomorrow is the potluck. But not really cause they cater it in. She will also have protein samples for us to try. I have found one that I like, everyone says not to buy a bunch cause your tastes change so much.
I know what you're going through. And it does seem like a long haul. Some days you think its never gonna happen. At my clinic I know once they get approval, you have surgery within 2-4 weeks. I'm sure then it goes quick. Just don't get down, I wonder what it will be like to shop anywhere, to not have my back and legs always hurt, to be cute again...But I know it will all happen. If I can just be patient!
