This is the problem that I am facing now. (and I know it is MY problem) Our DIL and I have had a few discussions about this. I am totally amazed at my children and how wonderfully they have grown and developed their own wings....two teachers and one serving in the Navy! But the "roots" thing is difficult.....I want at least a thread from that apron string!!

One of my X's cousins gave me advice years ago and it helped me with my kids..... she said the most valuable thing you can spend on your kids is time...
The most valuable thing my X mother in law taught me was: how NOT to be a mother in law. The criticizism, hurt, disapproval.... etc. Took me years to deal with. One of the first things I ever told my Dau in laws was.... If ever I say or do anything that offends you... TELL me. I do not want a strained relationship. I know as a mother in law... even just a person I tend to "give advice" and it is never to be taken as criticism.
On that note... see the post I sent about my kids. Kinda my bragging .....
