I've had my panties in a wad for quite awhile.... okay YEARS...

I never get to have Christmas morning with my grandchildren...it will never happen...NEVER....

This year, my family decided to have the 'family' Christmas of which I can only partake with all my siblings and their families... it's been a thorn in my side...and I've not looked forward to Christmas in years.  I digress...this year they want to have it on the 27th and it's just chapped my fanny.

Okay, so I finally got it settled in my head... decided to have a quiet Christmas with some friends... AND BAM!!!  Just thought I'd stir the proverbial pot.... DIL always has CE with HER mother.... they go to her Dad's... they go to her grandmother's.... they go to HER aunt's family Christmas, but OUR SIDE of the family has to get together on the 27th... because as my sister so aptly put it... you know, everyone has so much running to do to go to their mother's.... EXCUSE ME??????  I'm chopped liver here...????  I'M A MOTHER!!  No one was coming to MY house... so..here's the pot stir..

I sent an email... and said, why didn't my son and his family, after they open their Santas (I knew THAT was out of the question for me), come over here and have Christmas and I'd make a Christmas dinner... and damned if they didn't accept... now I'm thinking... crap... I'm going back to work...now I've got to put up a tree, decorate, get all my stuff wrapped, fix dinner for all of us..have the mess the day after and I work... yada, yada...

Chit, a gurl can't ever be happy, can she? :)

Chuckling... ohhh, Janet... you know that saying *be careful what you wish for*???

Although - why not have Christmas with your son and family?  On Christmas Day?  I applaud you for making the effort to do what you wanted and to make yourself happy.  And you will be happy even for the mess.

Just pull out a few of the *old family recipes* and don't kill yourself cooking.  Only do a tree and forego the other decorations.  And wrap a few gifts along the way - you've got time - there is 27 days until Christmas Day (I say with an evil laugh)

How many grandchildren do you have?  and who all did you send the invite to??

Get cracking ole gurl... you've got guests coming !

Sheila,

I think what really gets my goat is that I raised my boys with all of my family and my grandmother would never have EVER been excluded from Christmas morning and Santa Claus.. Christmas is for kids, yanno.  I would so love to see my grandbabies faces when they see their Santa but it's not to be.

I have never invited them to have a Christmas here (they live two miles away) because of the Family Christmas with siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc.

I've been so distraught this year over it... I just threw the invitation out there.  I may have to take a sick day to put it together. I was a little surprised when they accepted.  I was really expecting a fight.....

I have two grandchildren, 9 and 5.

Anyway.. I'm crackin'.

Oh Janet,  I am doing a little giggling here.......you sound SO much like me!!  My DS and his wife just left with their little 7 month old.  I was ticked that they were only staying for one night.........Gosh, was I glad when they left!!!!  You're right......sometimes we just CAN'T be happy!!

I had that same feeling when the kids came home from college..By Sunday I was ready to see them go...Funny we cried when they first left then it was ...Don't mess with my privacy when they would come home.

Or you can go to Honey Baked Ham and get them to sell you a whole dinner. I'm lazy enough that that's what I would do if I had a family to entertain at Christmas.

Lucky you!

Eileen,

Tom Thumb had pre-cooked Butterball turkeys for $9.99 the other day and I got one.  I'll get it out and thaw it for Christmas dinner. Trust me, dinner won't be a problem.  I can throw a gourmet dinner from cans if I can disguise enough of it.

Well I sure know what you mean about all the work but.....its will be so wonderful to have your family with you on Christmas Day....whats important is you are together.....not the food or the decor...OK, the food IS important, but how wonderful for you.
Good for you taking the bull by the horns

Atta Girl, Janet!

I'm proud of you for taking the lead in this and getting what you want.  You'll do fine and it's great you are going to have Christmas.

You're gonna enjoy every minute of it I'll bet.  Now, if you can just get them to come back to take down the decorations and put them away......  that's the part I don't like.....

Enjoy!
