I think it's Friday now-What's New?

I think the clock ha**** midnight now, so it's Friday here in NW Ohio!  Thanksgiving day was a bright sunny one!
My mother announced as soon as I walked in that this was her LAST big meal she was going to prepare,  I've heard that before but she said she had such a hard time reading the fine print - she has macular degeneration that seems to be getting worse, and she cannot stand too long because of her hips.  Of course I will take the reins, as I have tried to do previously, of course I asked what I could bring-nothing.  hmmm  Anyway, dinner was good, it was nice to see Matt, I haven't seen hime for about a month it seems.  He went to his fathers first and had some dinner there, then came to my parents for dinner! UGH!
We played some cards and generally talked a bit then I came home.  This morning I really didn't do much, read and knitted a bit.  Tomorrow I plan to hit $4 for a chai fix and work on the garage getting it cleared up and out.  I also will start super cleaning the house this week and getting it decorated.  That's my goals anyway!  So, what's new?

Good morning Debbie and any one else who stops by.

Thanksgiving was uneventful.  I thought there might be some problems, but there were not.  However, the situation still exists and will for a while.  Sorry I am so vague.

Watched my high school band in the Macy's Day Parade.  Copiague High School.  They did "Puttin' on the Ritz".  They are an outstanding band, state champions 5 times since 2000 I think.

Then went to daughter's house.  I bought turkey and ham. Mary made pumpkin pie, pumpkin mousse (sf) and banana mousse.  The mousse was the hit of the day for deserts.  My ham came out excellent.  Everyone raved about it, but I did nothing special.  It was a precooked spiral ham.  I sliced off the top half, froze the rest (since I also had a 23 lb turkey).  I spread the slices in a roasting pan, then Mary cut down to size a fresh pineapple (we bought 4 the other day, they were on sale).  Covered the slices in pineapple.  Cooked it at 325 for 15 minutes.  Every slice gave the taste of pineapple.  Mmmmmm.

Today we are going to check out making an addition to our home.  Not that way, get your minds out the gutter.  We are fixing to lose (I'm a Yankee, can't believe I said fixing to) our dachshund back to my son and his family.  Mary loves having dogs around, so we decided to adopt another greyhound.  Here is his pic:

The people who have him now (a temporary home while he awaits adoption) say he is big and clumsy and reminds them of Scooby Doo.

Well, it's not quite Friday yet here in Alaska, only 1030, but as Thanksgivings go.....this one kinda sucked. I stayed home with the dog and actually went back to bed after watching the purina dog show. My kids had their own dinners to go to at their other families and although they invited me, I just wasn't into it this year. I'm about 5 weeks out and just didn't even feel like eating much less socializing.....so it was all good, even tho it was weird. Hope Christmas shapes up better tho....
George, your greyhound is beautiful. He reminds me of a rescued gh we had growing up. Her name was Chrissy Dog.
Your ham sounds really good.......will try it that way for sure!
No shopping for me today (Friday), too many people for me! Will probably watch the grands while my dd does her shopping.....hope you all have a wonderful day....stay warm!

I have made the ham with canned pineapple before.  I really think what made it special was using fresh pineapple.

Denise,

I was about the same time out last year and chose to spend TG alone, as I did not feel up to attending the festivities and with my daughter's living in Florida and my son in Germany, while I had many invites, like you I chose to skip it, this year was different, not to mention that I have so much more than usual to be thankful for, a large part of which is the people I've met along this WLS journey!

I've never done the Black Friday thing before, but today I'm going to brave it with my two daughters and then we will have lunch together, as tomorrow I head home to the cold weather and my sweet doggie, Dillinger.

Hope you have a great day!

Laureen

Hi George,

Glad to hear that your day went well despite the thoughts it might go otherwise.

What a cute greyhound, perhaps one day I will adopt one of them, my Dillinger was a rescue, though it was my ex who did the rescuing when he was just 2 weeks old, now he just turned 12 and the realities of what I know one day I will face makes tears come to my eyes, the one downside to vacation is leaving him home, I can't wait to go home and hug my good buddy. . .  anyway, good luck with the "addition", he looks real sweet and I'm sure he will thrive with yours and Mary's love.

Hugs, Laureen

Funny thing.  My current greyhound loves to jump up on me and put his paws on my chest.  Mary was talking with the gal who has Pride and she said "We finally trained him not to jump up on us."  I told Mary we would have to untrain him.

George,

I had 2 rescued greyhounds. One fawn colored like the new one you are getting (Dreamer) and the other a Brindle (Jester.) They were such good dogs. Now we have a long haired doxie (Newt) had a smooth haired too but he passed a couple of years ago. He was the best doxie I have owned (Moose) and we still miss him. I have had 4 doxies since I was a kid.
Have fun and give them a pat for me!
