Alice - I will be working at the hospital and everyone is supposed to bring something... I signed up for a jello salad and cranberry sauce.  The jello salad is something that I know I can eat.

Your menu sounds fantastic.... Enjoy !

Oh Me Oh My,   I'm now at "that age" where I have been shooed from the kitchen to a chair on the side lines.  My dau- in- laws have now taken over.    Yes, they are good cooks but, "I" am the one who went to culinary school.    "I" am the one who can add that extra touch of seasoning  Ahhh  Well,  it gives me more time to be with the grandkids.   I can always slip them tidbits of food that spoils their appetites    That will teach them to "banish" me from the kitchen.

Ohh  to answer your question......  I'm preparing the relish tray and a pecan pie.   Pecan Pie.. not my usual type pie..... OMG  all that sugar...  I know I will be good for sure.  Ugh  I'd be soooo sick.

We will have a wonderful meal prepared by the girls.  No, it won't be wsl friendly but most of us are trying to be careful with our diets.  We have Weigh****chers, South Beach, and Nutri system dieters in the family; and of course my wsl.

Most of all we will be together.   Millie

Alice,I decided to work,so I will have a full catered meal courtesy of Wells Fargo.
Olivia is opposed to turkey after all these years, she says she no longer wants holidays connected to food.
She and the boys voted on sushi.
I will join them around 4PM for karoke and foolishness....smile.
I hardly cook anymore, and that is a freedom indeed. So my Thanksgiving is like Independence day.

I will be home alone, my family has all gone visiting in different directions and I am left to take care of all their animals, so my day will be traveling around town tending to the cats, dogs, and birds....don't have friends, so it's me and my dog, she will get her usual meal and I have no idea of what to do for mine. I may just do some of my Christmas baking as some needs to sit and mature for awhile.

I bet if you fixed your meal all sugar free they wouldn't know the difference unless you told them...remember you need fats in your  diet for your ADEK's and other body functions such as hair and skin.

It's just the four of us and my DS and his wife are vegetarians, so our menu changes a bit. Not that the menu is really different, I just can't use broth for the dressing and such. So, here it is:

Turkey breast (cooked in the crock pot, just big enough for Gary and me)
Tofurkey (a ball of tofu made to look like a boneless turkey, and turkey "flavored".....big yuck here!)
Dressing
Southwest sweetpotatoes (mashed w/ chipolte peppers)
broccoli casserole
orange cranberry sauce
whole wheat rolls
the kids are bringing the deserts from Fresh Market. An assortment that we can divide and try bits of.

I found Kosher chicken style broth that is vegetarian, so I'll use that to flavor the dressing. Hope it's okay.

Here you go, my friend. It comes from Good Eats on the Food Network. Love that Alton Brown!

2 lg sweet potatoes, cubed, about 4 cups

Steam them for 20 minutes or until soft, not mushy

Add 2 Tbs butter and 1/2 tsp salt

Mash well, but not to the point where it's "wall paper paste" per Alton.

chop one chipolte pepper, add to potatoes with 1 tsp(or more to taste) and stir to blend.

Sounds good, huh?  Can't wait.  Too bad you're not closer we'd have you over.

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO  CHARGERS!!!!!

we will be at my sons in charlotte, NC.  he is a graduate of culinary school, so even though he does not cook as a trade, i wonder how much of the cooking he will do as opposed to good old mom ( that would be me)

if we have the usual, however,  it will be a turkey breast, mushroom gravy, canned Leseur peas ( hubby thinks thats  a real veggie), with stuffing, mashed potatoes, jellied cranberry sauce out of the good old can.  ( ill make some real stuff for me when i get back home, from the recipe on the bag of cranberries, and i use splenda, and it rocks with cottage cheese, yogurt, oatmeal etc) not sure about sweet potatoes, the kind hubby likes would kill a wls patient, so may just not make any.

hmmmmm lets see, i think since just the four of us, no rolls or cornbread, we dont need it.

not sure about dessert although the last few years I  made the WW pumpkin mousse recipe thats around every year and the family liked that.  thought i might use the cheesecake flavored sf pudding this year, rather than the vanilla.  woooo hoooo im getting crazy with myself. (grin)  if they want any other kind of dessert they can pick something up at Harris Teeters when we go shopping wed. night.

anyway everyone please have a safe holiday and enjoy  and if your alone this year, an extra hug to you.

hugs to all, jacki

p.s. to the poster with the vegetarians, i have used vegetable based broth and its just as good as a chicken or beef broth, just a little lighter tasting.
