Hello! I'm brand new at this!

Hello Got room and patience for a rank beginner?!?! I'm 54 yrs old and up until this past summer was pretty active, mainly scuba diving. I've had to take stock at all the things I can't/won't do anymore to realize how much of life I'm missing. I'm tired of it and need to change or life isn't gonna be worth living! I know some of you know what I mean.

So I hope you won't mind my questions and fears as I start the long road of pre-op.

Nice to meet ya'll!
Dee

Welcome and ask away. I may not be able to help because I am a newbie but there are lots of great people here.

Welcome to OFF (Over Fifty Forum).  The nice thing about here is that we at one time have been where you are or will be where you are. We are very open and honest here, you can ask anything you like, no matter how intimate, we have  been there and done that....

Fears are normal.....We are a good group here and the best way to be here is being active, bu we do have lots of lurkers.....

Again, Welcome.
Women are angels.
...and when someone breaks our wings, we simply continue to fly...on a broomstick.

We are flexible.

Welcome Dee!!  I'm sure you'll find this a very supportive forum.   Folks here are genuinely interested and care.  They also care enough to set you straight if you happen to stray off course.  I'm also just beginning the pre-op stuff on the road to a much healthier and happier me.  Good Luck and Welcome!!

Hi Deedles,    Love the name.... We have the patience because we have all been there or are there.  And of course there is room for you.  The only thing expanding here is the losers bench.   You have just joined a great group of supportive people.   Ask away, there is usually someone who has had the same question and someone can answer even the toughest ones.

Hi Dee .. I have been where you are. Before I had this surgery, my pain doc said if I didn't lose weight, I would be in a wheelchair. Now, considering my knee problems, I may still end up in the wheelchair, but at least I did all I could to lose the weight. At least I'll look good in that wheelchair! (I had knee replacement two years ago and am headed to a revision during Christmas week ... I'm in severe pain most of the time.) Anyway, I've lost 180 pounds in four years and have kept it off, something I was never able to do before. This surgery saved my life.

These people on OFF are the greatest; I have met some of the most wonderful people here. It has opened up a whole new world of friends to me ... real sisters and brothers.

Hi Dee. Welcome. I was 54 when I started this journey, unable to walk more than a few feet before my back tightening up. Driving my garbage to the end of the driveway for pickup. I just celebrated my 3 year surgiversary and maintaining just fine with a BMI of 21, no more back pain, walking all over.

Ask away-we don't mind. Those of us who've had WLS have been through the process and can share our varied experiences, as well as the others who are either are in the midst of the pre-op process or trying to decide what's best for them.

Good luck!
