Help !!!!! What am I doing wrong????

Hi,

I may be jumping the gun here but I do have a question.  What is the average lbs people loose a week?  I had RNY surgery Nov 3rd. When I cam home from the hospital I had gained 11 pounds, I have lost the 11 plus 10 lb so far. I know the 11 was water and fluids from being in the hospital for 4 days.  I got on the scale Sunday and then today and have not lost a pound.  Am I doing something wrong?  I know I shouldn't have got on the scale today but I did.  Can I be having a stall already?

Any info appreciated.

This is one of the reasons I did a post a week or so ago, about what are your expectations? maybe yours are too high for reality.

The reality is, that everyone is different, never compare to anyone else. Your loss is YOURS, not mine or your neighbors. Some are slower or faster than others....the main question to ask is, is my health improving? or was the surgery for other reasons.....

THROW THE SCALES AWAY!! Only weigh at your doctor appointments....if your following your surgeons guidelines than your doing what your supose to be doing and so is your body....

No, I'm not coming down on  you....you don't always lose pounds, if you took your measurements at the beginning you should be measuring and you would be surprised to find your losing inches......hows the clothes fitting?

Be kind to your body, after all, we have abused them for years.....lets give them a break......

Hi JoAnn, I think 10# is great. Try to relax, you have enough to focus on without added stress. I've read about this senerio many times. Like Darlene said, as long as you follow your doc's plan you'll be fine. I know I'm going to have to take up a hobby after my surgery. My habit of sitting in front of the tv eating is no more. You are on your way to a new you, relax and enjoy the ride.
Have a great day JoAnn,

I am so glad you posted this question. I was wondering the same thing.  I was required to do a two week liquid protein diet up to surgery day. On the morning of surgery I had lost 15 pounds from that liquid diet. I just couldn't help it and got on the scale today. I am 4 days post-op and still hurting, feeling tired and generally yuck! I thought if I saw some wieght loss it would make me feel better. Kind of like feeling bad is all worth it.  WELL--- I didn't get the positive results I wanted. I am up 8 pounds from surgery day. YIKESS!!!!!
I tell myself that it is jus****er but I also know I have used that excuse many times before.

Hi Cheryl, your body needs to heal. I'm sorry you are feeling miserable yet but from what I read, it does get better and you'll be full of energy before you know it. When you start wearing those smaller sizes and able to move around like in years past without those pounds restricting you, you will be very thankful for the surgery.
Everyone says...follow your doc's orders to the "T" and it will happen for you.
I will keep you in my prayers for healing and comfort.

Hi Joann,   Not to worry, you're doing fine.    I think we get so excited reading about how fast some lose weight that we think that we aren't doing well  if we don't instantly shed all those pounds.    I weighed 14 pounds more after surgery than before, plus - my Doctor took me permanently off my diuretic pills.

Just follow the guidelines your doctor gave you.  Eat the right foods, get your protein in first, take your supplements and drink lots & lots of water.  It's a formula for success.

I think the thing with the scale is a matter of preferance.  If it's bothering you, get rid of it.   For me, I have weighed every morning for the last 1-1/2 years.    I don't let it bother me, but now that I can eat more I need to know so that I won't eat too much!

Take your measurements, eat right & begin exercise program.   You'll do great!

I have been wondering the same thing. I lost 15 prior to surgery on my liquids and gained 13 back in the hospital. I haven't been moving like I should because I was so weak from the pneumonia. I cannot stay off the scales. It drives me crazy. I am losing maybe a half pound a day. I think I am worrying too much. I see other people losing 50 pounds the first month and wonder why not me? I am trying to wait at least every other  day to weight. I hope I have the strength.

Don't worry Joann, you are right on schedule. right there in the beginnng your body  hits a spot of confusion, just hang in there and pretty soon it will  just take off. We have all been through it. Hang in there.

JoAnn and all the other NEWBIES,

The scales will drive you insane. Trying to figure out a weight loss pattern will drive you over the edge.

We are all different. Your weight will probably NOT come off consistantly each week. Some weeks you may gain a pound or two. You WILL have stalls.

On the bright side      : if you follow your food and exercise plan, you will see results. Better yet, you will feel marvelous.

Hang in there. WLS works.

Thanks all for your posts.  I was away all weekend and did not have access to the computer.  Even that was driving me crazy.  I couldnt wait to get home and see your replies.

I wasnt on the scale all weekend and wont get on it till Tuesday.  I guess I'm just getting scared.  I dont have the same feeling others do.  I feel like I could eat.  I am limiting what I put in my mouth not because I am full but because I think I should be.  Does that make sense?
