What's New Thursday?

Hi my OFF Family:

It's just before 1 a.m. here in West Michigan. Brrr, it's cold, and they're calling for lake effect snow ... bad, bad words! Hate lake effect snow ... oh, I hate any kind of snow, except maybe snow flurries or snow in Montana, where it doesn't affect me anymore. So why did I move back to the Midwest? Money (and family). They were offering a lot at the time. Now the money is drying up, the newspaper biz is crappy (nobody reads anymore, advertisers are all going out of business) ... I just hope the newspaper can stay alive until I can retire or qualify for disability. (Depressing enough for you?)

I have my meeting Friday with the big guy (executive editor) concerning the buyout offer. I'm not taking it, of course. My boss said the first round of meeting have gone OK and I shouldn't really worry about them. And I'm not; I told my boss I can't take the buyout and I need my job. Still, of course, I'm nervous, even though I feel pretty confident about things. You never know what the high muckety-mucks will bring up at these things (my exec editor is a Cub fan, I'm a White Sox fan ... the two don't get along ... we always kid each other about these things ... it's not cause for dismissal, of course). There has been talk that some chain papers have put non-buyout people into positions that they were not trained for ... for example, a reporter into a mailroom job (I told the person who told me this that if I was forced into that, I would have to claim disability ... the next one she told me about was accounting ... I said the same thing, disability ... math disability ... if they ever saw my checkbook, they would understand! Then this person said customer service, and I said, now that I could do!)

On top of this career uncertainty, my body isn't liking me. Not only my knee, but suddenly my right elbow is hurting so badly ... every time I go to reach for something, like my water, or the mouse ... I get this sharp pain ... now, I can handle pain in my back and my knee ... but I gotta be able to type and use the mouse!

The first of my coworkers turned me down for my Christmas ride ... she was so contrite ... she said she'd come over on New Year's Day and watch football with me (she doesn't live very far and is single, too). I said it's a deal, I'd supply the beer. It will be nice to have someone to talk with ... I get lonely and bored ... she came over after the last knee surgery for awhile, too ... she's our theater critic and so nice, but she is going out of town to St. Louis to visit her folks.

Oh well, I've babbled on long enough ... I have lots to do today ... it is payday, but I have lots of bills, so don't know how much I'm going to be able to get. Plus, I wanted to get Scooter to the vet, but I think I'm going to run short of funds, so I think I'll have to wait on that. Hate to do it, because one of these furballs is obviously sick enough to poop and pee outside the box, but I just don't have the money, so I will have to wait until next week. Vet won't take postdated checks or bill me. No choice on this one. We'll see how things go after everything is tallied up.

Have a good day. Stay warm.

Good morning Eileen.  Sorry to hear that your elbow is giving you trouble.  Hope it feels better soon.  AND I hope your meeting with the "big guy" goes well.

I just got home from a performance of "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee."   So much fun to see a live performance and hear their wonderful voices.

I have a 7 am meeting of our Performance Improvement and Patient Safety Committee - so I better hit the hay soon.  Hope everyone has a good Thursday!

Eileen,

It's the middle of the freakin' night!!!  You're talking snow and we had 80 degree weather here.  Maybe you should try for a job at the Fort Worth Star Telegram...:)

Today is supposed to be a 'cold snap', I think.  I'll have to check the weather station.  If it is, it won't get above 60 today.... this could be up for 'edit'.

Nothing happening here. I've been posting drivel all day yesterday.  Woke up crying awhile ago, dreaming... still sleeping on the couch.  One of these days I'll clean the bed off....:)

After I get my drains out I'm going shopping for a waist cinch so I can get rid of these medicinal binders.

That's it for me.

Ya know, it's funny, Janet, the day I accepted this job, I got a voice mail from the Fort Worth paper wanting to interview me. At the time, it was a Knight-Ridder paper, I was working for a KR paper, so it would have been a fairly seamless transition. And my nephew was living in Dallas. But ... I took this job instead. Unfortunately, the newspaper business went down the tubes. KR is no more, and the company I work for is in trouble too. Nobody reads anymore.

Good morning Eileen and all.  I knew you would be here.  It's Thursday.

Pay has been processed for me.  It won't show up in my main account until Friday AM.  But that's all right.  I know how much is coming.

Hope you all have a great day.

GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!!

Hello Eileen and Off Friends,

It is 19 degrees here right now with a North wind of 22 miles per hour. The high today is suppose to be 21 with lots of wind. Winter is here! Brrrrrrrr!
I have a computer chip under my skin taking my blood sugars every 5 minutes. I have had it in since Monday. I get it removed today. My insulin will change accordingly. I also have my group therapy this afternoon so I will be going to town twice today.
Eileen, you will be in my prayers. I hope the pain in your elbow will go away. I am so sorry you have to deal with so much pain. I have a lot of pain in my ankle (which I broke in 2001 and it healed wrong due to my excess weight) so I know what pain can do to a person. Because I am an addictive personality my doctor won't prescribe any pain meds for me. It's just plain old Avil for me and it doesn't touch the ache. It makes for a lot of sleepless nights. I hope your pain will go away and you will feel better real soon.
Everybody---have a great day.

Nancy

Good morning Eileen!  Wish I could just blink three times and make your pain go away. Er, if I could do that for you, I'd do it for myself afterward!?!! Today is four weeks out from PS.  Had a WOW moment yesterday:  Got out my favorite long wool winter coat, size ten, and literally drowned in it!  Will have to hang on to it for now, as got it at Goodwill two years ago, it fit perfectly last winter, and am not physically up to a shopping venture to the thrift store or Goodwill anytime soon.  But, it's soooo huge!!!
Got a ride yesterday late afternoon with a friend to the weekly dinner and fellowship at my church, where I hadn't been in over a month!  Was wonderful being able to thank so many people in person for their prayers, cards, and support.  Got back home within three and a half hours, though was BEAT! Layed down and put feet up, fell asleep during the news though awoke at one thirty a.m., and my cat was actually snuggled by my head!  She's just lovin' my being around 24/7--the bestest company ever, and so amusing to observe when she doesn't know I'm watching!

Am not tired, though better go elevate the feet here.  Am behind on reading my People magazines, so will pick up where I'd left off.  Have yet to figure out how time goes so fast when I barely leave home--so much to keep occupied with around here!  I like getting out socially, though enjoy being alone too. That's a huge plus during this home-bound phase, I'd say!
(hey, haven't taken an Ambien in over a week--good to now realize I wear myself out enough that having no problem sleeping six hours at a shot.  Yeay!  Eileen, I still laugh out loud remembering that night I sort of 'drunk-dialed' you and fell asleep on the phone!  Never again!)  Will chat again very soon---promise!
Wishing you and everyone a wonderful day! Hugs, Patti

The printing business is failing too. Tom works for a company that prints business forms. They are the forms used by car dealerships, doctor's offices, etc. 3 of the 5 press operators have been laid off in the past couple of weeks. Each day is full of stress.

Our big cat, Joey, looks ill. He has a gum condition and gets a shot of Depo Provo each month to control the symptoms. The Vet warned that this might lead to diabetes. I give him the Depo shots, hating the feel of doing injections. I hope he won't need daily insulin but will do whatever is needed.

Our surgeon seems to be scheduling more surgeries than ever. The e-mails are coming in asking for support during the two week liquid diet. I am SO glad that I didn't give out my phone number.

Keep warm.

Annette

Morning Annette,
Is Joey drinking a lot of water?????  Fluffy is and goes
pee pee tons......I am thinking she may have diabetes too.
I don't think I can handle giving her shots, I would be a mass of cat bites.

On another subject, would you mind e-mailing me with a sample of your agenda for your support group meetings......I am starting to get hits from folks wanting to join...our first meeting won't be until Jan. 5th but I want to get an idea of what you [email protected].

Thanks much.

Pat,
The increased thirst is my concern. Plus he is losing weight. We have no problems giving him the shots as long as Tom holds him and I jab the needle.

I'll send you some info and other ideas about the group.

Kisses
