It's a wrap! (Ace wraps, that is!) (update)
Hi everyone! I had such good intentions of being better about posting here, though please rest assured that only shows I keep incredibly busy with recuperation and at-home care and rehab! Great news: tomorrow will be four weeks out from medial thigh lift and yesterday the surgeon was so impressed with the progresssion in the eleven days since the previous visit. He literally cut off the Ace wraps from feet to groin, as the swelling has remained problematic, and the wraps ended up like touniquets around the knees, between the swollen areas above and below. FREEDOM! No more nasty tape that itched the skin like crazy! No more being over-heated from the gauze packs covered with gauze pads, covered with gauze wraps, then the Ace wraps. Whew! Now it's just the packs, pads, and gauze wraps only on the thighs to groin. There was a 2-1/2" hot red patch which he said was a little infection where another suture is opening, so he 'wicked' it, which got the infection out, and am again on antibiotic for ten days. I've updated the PS journal in my profile, and added some graphic pics. NOTE: several pics are graphic, not for the faint of heart! And although several may resemble porn, they are exclusively the thighs and hideous swelling as the fluid attempts to work its way out of the body. Every single day has shown improvement. Am still using the walker, although getting around smoother and quicker. Surgeon does want the feet elevated more often and longer. So that's what takes up my time: home care nurse here every morning to cleanse, pack, wrap, etc, physical therapist twice weekly, lymphnodic (sp?) therapist who massages the remaining lymph nodes in thighs to encourage fluid expellation, rest, exercise, elevate feet, and at least one lengthy nap. Amusing, I'll awake from a deep sleep nap of three to four hours, at six, seven or eight p.m., thinking it's morning and time to hit the shower before the home care nurse calls. Every time, I check the living room wall clock, and see the date is same day. Shee****'s funny, though reassuring to get that well rested. Sometimes I end up late nights like now, though must get to bed here as the home care nurse will call anywhere between eight and nine to let me know what time she'll be here.
Am actually going out tonight! Er, getting picked up for the weekly church dinner and fellowship, and so looking forward to seeing the many people who have been praying, sending cards and gifts (totally unnecessary!), and dropped by. Have missed more visitors than have received due to sleeping, home nurse here, or out walking the halls. Oh, will be a treat seeing them tonight to allow them seeing faith in action! And thanks again to all of you who've stood by me in this incredibly painful process! And you know who you are: thanks for the cards, calls, and PMs or Emails! Hugs galore, Patti

Never let your memories be greater than your dreams.

Janet, you're so sweet, with all you've got going on, to remember little 'ol me! You're absolutely right--this experience has definitely opened my eyes to the miracles within our bodies to heal. Quite the sight for the eyes, though so grateful I cannot feel the pain of the surgical wounds. Yes, it's still going to be four to six more months, though must keep focused on the big picture, the end result. Isnt' Tina Turner about ready to retire?! I see a future with the new legs!
. Thank you again for your kind thoughts and words--sure wish I could just wave a magic wand and make your pain go away. All the best to you, hugs, Patti

Hey Patti:
So glad you are finally mending.....it's been a very long journey for you.
After looking at your pics, I don't think I could ever go thru that surgery......my thighs are really big and since WLS they look like big globs of cottage cheese, but they will probably stay that way.....LOL
Hugs and prayers,
Pat R.
