How does WLS help foot problems
Any one have WLS who had some kind of foot problem and have to wear a brace or orthotic. I have a rocker bottom foot from Charcots foot.
If I had a choice between a positive outcome with Reconstructive Foot Surgery and WLS I am not sure which I would choose. I hope that WLS will help a lot and the foot will work better because it does not have to hold up two people.
I really would like to hear from someone that has foot problems and how they are doing .

Make sure you talk to your doctor and surgeon about the Charcots...One of my support group ladies a few years ago has that and had surgery, they knew all the risks involved and she became paralyzed in her legs.
Not sure if there is a difference but I think hers was called Charcot Marie....

I don't know anything about Charcots foot, but I did have both feet operated on (separately) for bunions & hammertoes. I know that my feet problems would have been so much better if I hadn't been so overweight. Even after these surgeries, my legs & feet would swell & become very painful with minimal amount of walking. Now I can walk 6 (or more?) miles with no swelling, no pain. If you have a choice after consulting both doctors, I'd do the wls surgery first & then see if the other surgery was still needed. This is just my opinion, for what it's worth. Best wishes to you.
I have had flat feet (pronation) since I was a child, and since I was always overweight, the pronation got worse ... had bunions, bunionettes, bone spurs, tendinitis, etc. I have had orthotics in my shoes since the early 1980s; just recently I got new, lightweight ones. About the only shoes I can wear that are comfortable are New Balance. But since losing 180 pounds, my feet experience a lot few problems ... now, it didn't correct the problems already there; the pronation was a genetic defect (I had to wear the clunky brown orthotic shoes as a child). But I shouldn't get too many more problems (I hope!)
What's really weird is just about everyone else loses shoe size after weight loss ... I grew! I used to be a size 10 wide width; now I'm an 11D. Go Figure!
Yes, I think losing weight will help your feet, but I don't know about your specific problem. I still wear the orthotics or I would be in too much pain. Some things WLS can't fix.

Thank you for the input. Charcot Marie is a genetic nerve damage disease mine is related to neglect from diabetes.
I realize I can never have the pretty feet again but would love to just be able to be walk across a parking lot without loss of balance or pressure. I will let you know how it all goes hopefully I can have my ducks facing all the same way in January and get a date soon after.
