hi its 1204am and what are you doing on Monday?????
Hello everyone
Well it is a little chilly here today as it has been the last few days. Made me want soup. So this morning I baked some potatoes and will make potato soup in a little while. I am also going to make pumpkin pie with splenda and no fat evap. milk. I bake it in ramekins so there is no crust. Tastes like the real thing but healthy. Today it is so nice outside I will work in the yard. I had a lot of plants pulled out of my flower beds. Way too overgrown. It looks much better. Now I just have to prune a few shrubs. After Thanksgiving I am going to plant some dwarf plants that are slow growing and easy to maintain. I want to plant a lemon tree on my patio. The dwarf variety of Meyer lemon will get about 10-12 ft. tall. I just want my flower beds to be neat. I like a foundation of compact shrubs with diffrerent textures and shades of green. Then I can plant a few annuals for seasonal color and be done with it. Looks nice without a lot of work. When I had the yard put in the lanscaper was told this and assured me that the shrubs were low growing or dwarf and my beds would not get overgrown.....not ! ! ! Needless to say I am not using her any longer.
I am going to Atlanta on Thursday. My mother lives with my sister and she needs to go to Utah. I will be caring for my mother until her return on December 1. I come home on the 3rd. My son and DIL live about an hour away and hopefully they will come over on Thanksgiving day and I'll fix the traditional meal. I found a recipe for roast turkey and gravy on the weigh****chers web site that seems healthy and easy.
I guess I had better get to the laundry, soup, and pruning. .......

What nice posts this morning, It was like sitting around a table chatting with friends. What was I doing at 12:something AM? I think I was just crawing in bed after cleaning some in the basement. Caught the end of a PBS show on the Dominican Republic. Couldn't sleep much last night , over slept this morning, rushe so fast getting to work I actually feel dizzy and disoriented. I have to get off a little early to be over at Council Bluffs for a special Legion meeting. Messes up my weekly schedule big time, Mondays after work is "moms day" I take her shopping and such. Tomorrow I have to take my car and let the insurance company check out where the guy backed into me. After living in my apartment for 7 years the landlord wants to come in and do an inspection I have so much cleaning and such to do. I look around and I can not believe how much "stuff" I have when I came back from Florida 7 yrs ago I had one little uhaul now I have a 2 bedroom huge basement FULL of stuff. Faith (granddaughter) helped me clean out the extra bedroom on Saturday. had tomake room for the new grandbaby that will be born in February. I called Liz and taunted her. "I have my baby bed up, do you?" She said , well I went through 1 box today. good thing babies give you notice, she is going to need the time. I haven't payed a lick of attention to our weather, all I know is I was very late today so I ran out the door with only a sweater on and it is enough, so can't be too cold. Have a blessed day

Aloha Carla and all my OFF family.....
Like Marti, I have been MIA lately, but come in every day to try and keep up. It's not easy with all the newcomers and all the busy lives of the old timers.
My life has been a bit of a crazy one lately. The agency I work for has a lot of fund raisers to get money to help children from birth to five years old. My main job is newborn hearing testing at the hospital as most of you know, but my other job is helping get these fund raisers together. We had a HUGE one this weekend upcountry Maui at an art institute, and it was a success. I tested babies Sat. morning from 5:30 to 9:30, then home for a nap, and upcountry from 2:00 til 11:00 p.m. The event was in tents, caterered with silent auctions, live auctions, and adorable "slipper trees." In Hawaii flip-flops are called "slippers" and everyone wears them all the time. Fancy ones for fancy events, and rubber ones for everyday. I only wear SHOES when I go to the mainland or walk for exercise. The slipper trees were covered in fancy slippers made by local women........big, little, furry, glimmering, jeweled, etc. They sold for $20 a pair and we sold A BUNCH!
Yesterday, I was a SLUG! Moved very slowly doing a few chores, but always ending up back on the couch or out on the lanai with a good book. Sundays are always fun on the ocean with surfers, outrigger canoe races, windsurfers, and snorkelers. Oh, and did I tell you that THE WHALES ARE BACK!!! I haven't seen my first one yet because I'm away so much, but my neighbors tell me they have seen several already. They aren't here in the hundreds until Jan/Feb. Soon they will be mating, and having babies from last year's romps.....and how extraordinary it is to be able to watch a calf being born, and then lifted out of the water for it's first breath by this monster mama! Winter is wonderful on Maui! Whales, warm days, cool evenings, and lots of visitors.
This morning I am feeling humbled and grateful for just being alive and healthy. Many of my friends and acquaintances are dealing with heavy medical problems. One has to have both hips replaced. Another is dealing with heart problems. And, yesterday our resident manager had a massive stroke and is in a coma. His wife is my surgery angel, having had WLS about two years before me. Her life has changed forever since yesterday when she couldn 't wake her husband and called 911. We all heard the ambulances come, and eventually found out what had happened. So very sad. He is such a wonderful man......always helpful and friendly. There is no way he will ever be able to be resident manager after this kind of stroke (my friend is a nurse and has seen this type of stroke all too often.)
So, I have decided that I am going to try and enjoy every day and appreciate the life I have been given to live because you just never know when it will change forever, and not in a good way.
Wow...I have gone on and on haven't I. I didn't realize I had so much to say, but then I always feel better when I reach out to my OFF family. You all understand at a different level than my friends who have not gone through what we all have, or are about to. Thank you for always being there.........you all are right up there on top of my gratitude list!!

Hey Lil' Slug Bug, Get in all that rest girl, you need it, you are worth it, and your tiny body is much happier when you take a R & R day . Been missing you uplifting chats, my puter took a major dump, as in 13, 000 + viruses, dang, such a mess, and Soooooo expensive to get back my computer life. So, I hoping I 'm all fixed and never go through that stuff again.

Hi Carla and my OFF family:
Thought about calling you last night but wasn't sure what your schedule was like.
I am off today ... had my pain injection, which I really needed because my back really hurt last night. I didn't sleep all that well. Both hips hurt, and I couldn't get comfortable at all. Tossed and turned all night. So I hope the injections help. Luckily, I'm off so I don't have to edit on drugs tonight ... although that always makes things interesting.
I am working on Thanksgiving, but I'll have my little feast of turkey wings etc. this coming Sunday, then reheat some on Thanksgiving before I go to work.
Got an e-mail from my boss. He wants me to reschedule my surgery for before the first of the year. So I have to call the surgeon's scheduling secretary today and hope I can do this. I was trying to make things easier for my boss by scheduling after the first of the year but he thinks with all the upheaval, it will be easier to do it now. That means I won't get home for my family's Christmas. So no Thanksgiving or Christmas for me. I'm upset about that because I haven't seen my family since Easter. And I don't know who I'm going to get to stay with me after the surgery (pick me up from the hospital, stay for a couple days so I don't have to go to the rehab hospital).
Well, I should go. I'm on the phone with my friend Margie. I wanted to ask her about a garden gnome she had that was destroyed in a tornado a few years back. She has been looking for it, and I think I found it in an eBay store. It's a ceramic piece that I'd have to do, but if I'm going to be off for six weeks, well, I'd sure have time.
Have a good day.

Sitting here watching the snow come down.....we're supposed to get several inches by nite.
Worked at the bank this morning and have a foot Dr. appt later this afternoon to get the toe nails trimmed. Meantime, if I can get my hands warmed up, I will do some cross stitching. The house is spotlessly clean since my cleaning angel was here this morning....it even smells clean. Think I will burn my cinnamon/apple candle to make it smell even better and put on my new Jim Brickman CD of Christmas music.
Hugs,
Pat R.

Foot doctor to get toenails trimmed? Ingrown?
Nay, nay. I paid for a podiatrist for YEARS for ingrown toenails. THEN...found out from a good friend that a pedicure with a good pedicurist would rid me of ingrown toenails and I'd get my legs massaged, toenails painted AND get rid of my ingrown toenails. I've not stepped into a podiatrist's office in years..... and will probably never again. However, I go for a pedicure about once a month now and have the softest feet, NO ingrown toenails, pretty toes, and feel pampered to boot.
If ingrown toenails are your problem, I'd sure try the pedicure route for awhile. They know how to trim your toenails to keep you from having them.

Oh Janet, you make me chuckle.....
The reason I go to the podiatrist is because I am diabetic (actually it is controlled now with diet - no pills), and MEDICARE PAYS FOR IT!!!!! They take excellent care of my feet and even massage them with lotion after taking care of the nails and callouses. Besides the Doc is so cute......and I always get a hug!
Love ya'

Hi one and all,
Just a quick "drive by" to stop in and say howdy. I have happy Saint Bella news!! The cosmetic boutique where my DIL works has ordered all , yes, ALL of our product for a wholesale cost of a little over $1,000 PLUS, I'm delivering shampoo and conditioner to two people who want it badly enough they don't care there aren't labels on them yet. Thank you God! I've been so worried. Now we'll be able to replenish our stock and get things onto etsy.com for the holidays.
Karen S was talking about being grateful, and yes I am. This afternoon I'm going to the hospital to shave a co-worker's dad's head to prepare him for surgery on a stage 4 brain tumor. Makes you happy to get up and moving everyday.
Love and hugs to everyone.....gotta go
