PRE-OP PREP??

 Hi Gang...just looking over my schedule for next few wks before surgery and wondering if I need to take off work the day before surgery. I usually do a 12hr day that day not getting home till about 9pm. Haven't talked with my surgeon yet about the prep but should I take off that day? or do a half day? I need to ask off right away if I need to. I lined up everything else pretty well but forgot about that till now. I have my 2 pre-op appts scheduled the wk before.

Every doctor is different. I worked the day before, but then my bariatric center had me on a 2-week pre-op diet that pretty well cleaned me out and I didn't need to have any enemas or anything of that sort. Had no pre-op prep the day before of the sort some other bariatric surgeons use. So you will have to consult with your surgeon to see what they do.

Hi Eileen, months ago my surgeon said I would not be on a diet pre-op so I assume it will be the "liquid bomb". I thought I had read in the past that some had to start drinking that stuff earlier in the day before. I guess I better call my clinic first thing tomorrow so I can ask off  if I need to right away.

Check with your surgeon's office.   I had to do the prep the day before & spent the whole day in & out of the bathroom.  I wouldn't have been able to work that day.

Check with your surgeon. I had to drink TWO of the yucky bowel preps, one in the morning, another in the afternoon. He no longer does that.

I didn't have to do any pre-op bowel prep, thank goodness.  I was on clear liquids for 3 days pre-op and didn't have much in me to clean out anyway.

If you do have to do a bowel prep, I would definitely take that day off from work.
