I don't know if everyone knows about this gadget, but many of the folks at my support group are using the GymBoss timer to help them eat slowly.    You set it for 5 minute intervals (or however long you want your intervals to be) and only take a bite when it vibrates.    I just got one & have it clipped to my waistband.  I fixed a lunch which is about 15 bites & using the GymBoss, it will take me over an hour to eat.    I must admit that I was downing my meals faster than my little Lucy (don't tell her, but Lucy is a dog).    If anyone is interested, here's a link:

By the way, it is designed for physical fitness programs.

I'm all for eating slowly - if I eat too fast, I tend to get stuck, and I appreciate my food more when I eat slowly.  But, I have heard that if you eat for longer than 30 minutes, you are giving the food a chance to move through your stoma and be replaced by more food, thus making it possible to overeat.

I'm guessing all the experts can't agree.  I've never had anything get stuck, and my natural instinct is to wolf it down fast.   My wl doctor says a meal should span 45 or more minutes, one bite every five minutes.      I'm hoping this will help me fight the urge to inhale my food.

Gee that sounds like a long time to eat one meal....One Hour????

I know we should chew, chew, chew but golly the food is going to be stone cold by the time one hour is up.  I am going to try it tonight when I eat my Lean Cuisine for dinner and see how it goes.  I'm game to try anything.

Maybe because I'm only about 7 weeks post-op but I can't eat too fast even if I try.  I get that "stuck" thing going on and really feel some serious pain so that in itself slows me down.
